It was announced last year that Chloe Grace Moretz would play Ariel in Universal’s live-action adaption of the The Little Mermaid. However, it has been reported today that Chloe Grace has pulled out of the remake of the Disney classic.
Neither Chloe nor Universal have yet commented on why the star has decided against participating in the movie. However, speaking to Hollywood Reporter earlier this week, Chloe revealed that she has pulled the plug on her upcoming movies. This was because she had accepted so many projects she felt that she had lost sight of why she started. She said she wants to ‘reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again.’ Although this comment was not directed towards her role in The Little Mermaid, it is thought to be the reason behind her sudden withdrawal.
Additionally, when she was first announced as Ariel, the actress received lots of criticism. Fans thought that she wasn’t suitable for the role, especially as she would be blonde in the film, in contrast to Ariel’s red hair.
Fan favourites to replace Chloe as Ariel are Games of Thrones star, Sophie Turner, or Mortal Instruments actress, Lily Collins.
