The Fosters will deliver a special message ahead of its Season 4 Premiere on Monday, which coincidentally is centred around a school shooting.
Freeform has confirmed that The Fosters stars Cierra Ramirez and Sherri Saum will deliver the special message dedicated to the victims of the Orlando attack just before the episode airs. The premiere and second episode of Season 4 will tackle gun violence and the trauma after Mariana’s (Cierra Ramirez) boyfriend Nick steals his father’s gun and brings it to school. This was all scheduled before the Orlando incident became the worse mass shooting in American history, therefore the show will have an even more important message towards it than expected.
Executive producer of the show, Joanna Johnson said “It’s something that’s happening so much it’s almost becoming normal. It almost seems like a weekly occurrence that someone is taking a gun to school. We wanted to explore what the impact of this has on our schools and has on our kids.”
The announcement will be extremely significant as The Fosters is centred on lesbian parents called Lena and Stef Adam-Fosters and their five children, Brandon, Jesus, Mariana, Callie and Jude. Throughout the three seasons, the show has tackled important issues regarding the LGBT community such as; gay marriage, gay adoption, bisexuality and transgender teens.
