Utah’s very own Indie-Pop band, The Aces, made their way to Anaheim’s House of Blues for the Waiting For You Tour on February 15.
The rainy Friday afternoon did not stop The Aces fans from queuing outside! When the doors opened, VIP fans got to have a Q+A and meet and greet session with the band. After the girls left to get ready for their show, the fans quickly filled up the pit. The pre-show playlist got everyone in a good mood and ready to see an amazing performance.
The opening act, joan, took the small intimate stage and surprised the crowd with the 80s and 90s elements that they have in their songs – something that we all enjoyed very much! The two members, Steven Rutherford (drums) and Alan Thomas (guitar), were equally surprised with the crowd’s response to them – Alan took notice of this and told the us that we were “rowdy” that night.
Soon after joan left the stage, the house lights went out and the dark blue stage lights went on, creating a serious and intense atmosphere for The Aces to step into. The intro to “Put It On The Line” began to play which released anticipation and excitement into the air. The Aces finally hit the stage with a bang and then transitioned into “Stay”, which brightened up the vibe. This bubbly, upbeat song got the crowd jumping and singing along in no time.
Front woman, Cristal Ramirez, knows how to pump a crowd up. For every song, she made consistent eye contact and exchanged smiles with the fans in the first few rows, making the crowd go crazy.
Throughout the entire set, Katie Henderson stayed fully immersed in the music and kept the liveliness up with her outstanding guitar riffs. Songs like “Bad Love”, “Lovin’ Is Bible” and a crowd favorite, “Last One” had everyone yelling the lyrics at the top of their lungs.
The crowd swayed their hands in the air as the four piece slowed it down with “Waiting For You”. They left the stage at the end of the song, which only left the crowd wanting more.
CelebMix’s favorite moment of the show was when The Aces came back to the stage for an encore. They maintained the chilled atmosphere by performing their ballad “Hurricane”. After Cristal held a long, breathtaking note, the audience praised her and continuously cheered the band on. Cristal took a pause before finishing the song to embrace the special moment, and the band could not help but joyously smile at the hysteria they were seeing in front of them.
The Aces ended their set with “Stuck” – the first single that they released as a band. Once the drums kicked in, Alisa Ramirez‘s contagiously high energy radiated from upstage and down to the crowd as the bassist, McKenna Petty jammed alongside her, keeping the rhythm together.
They gave their final bows, threw guitar picks and drumsticks to their fans, and exited the stage while the rap track, “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott played in the background – a fun and hilarious way to end a fantastic show!
The Aces’ set was filled with upbeat songs that made us want to dance all night long. Although it is winter here in California, these songs are reminiscent of the warm summer days we spend on the beaches. Their catchy tunes will definitely leave you singing them to yourself wherever you go!
