Following on from their Main Stage slot at Reading and Leeds Festival, punk-rock outfit COUNTERFEIT. have unveiled their new single It Gets Better. Released through Lava Records U.S/Virgin EMI UK, the track is a powerful, anthemic protest number marking the start of a new chapter in the band’s discography.
It Gets Better is a song of strength and defiance, throughout singing of standing up and finding your inner voice and power to make a change. Led by Jamie Bower’s spoken-word vocals, your attention is immediately drawn to lyrics such as ‘we’ll settle down when we give up‘ and the repetitive ‘it gets better‘ which gets beneath your skin as you find yourself singing along before the track is out.
Speaking of the track Jamie said “It Gets Better is a deeply personal song and its message cuts right to the heart of who we are. Our goal is to bring people together, to dismantle the barriers that divide us as a species and to make a change in the world. We are in a time of need. We need to come together and to learn to love again. Learn to listen again. Learn to talk again. Learn to feel again. Learn to let go and let in. It’s a small start but if we try, I do believe that we can start to change things because I myself have learnt that with these small steps it does indeed get better.” In 2017 COUNTERFEIT. released their debut album Together We Are Stronger, It Gets Better is the first track to be taken from the upcoming follow-up set for release in 2020.
Alongside the release of It Gets Better, the quintet have also announced a UK and European tour which will be kicking off next month. Starting on the 25th October in Rome the tour will head across Europe before the UK leg begins in London on 2nd December before finishing in Birmingham on December 12th. The band are currently out on a North American headline tour which started yesterday.
