As the echoes of the Golden Globes fade, all eyes turn to the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
Hosted by Chelsea Handler in a spectacular ceremony, live from Barker Hanger, Santa Monica Airport, the Critics Choice Awards 2024 unfolded as a testament to the industry’s resilience and creativity, with a nod to both the familiar and the newly celebrated.
The spotlight shone brightly on standout films like “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie”, “Poor Things,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” with their impressive nominations and wins. Not to be outdone, television gems like “The Morning Show”, “Beef” and “Succession” also claimed their rightful spots in the nominations limelight.
“Oppenheimer” once again stole the show, claiming eight wins, including Best Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan), and Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.). Hot on its heels, “Barbie” sashayed away with six wins out of its impressive 18 nominations, clinching titles such as Best Comedy and Best Song for the catchy “I’m Just Ken.” The awards ceremony stirred the pot, surprising audiences by awarding Best Actress to Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) and Best Actor to Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”).
On the television front, fan-favourite shows including “The Bear,” “Succession,” and “Beef” reigned supreme, sweeping multiple acting accolades and earning the titles of Best Comedy Series, Drama Series, and Limited Series, respectively. Each show secured its dominance, with “The Bear” and “Beef” bagging four awards each and “Succession” walking away with three.
The iconic legend Harrison Ford graciously accepted the prestigious Career Achievement Award, presented by James Mangold, while America Ferrera was honoured with the distinguished SeeHer Award, presented by Margot Robbie.
