The renowned Dallas String Quartet (DSQ) drops their brand-new album, Love Always, an opulent collection of treasured pop classics such as Dan + Shay’s “10,000 Hours” and Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams.”
Love Always features the Piano Guys – Jon Schmidt (piano) and Steven Sharp Nelson (cello).
Talking about the album, DSQ’s Ion Zanca shares, “We started by playing music for, and being a part of, people’s happiest moments, so we wanted to go back to the basics and to the simplicity of that theme and feeling. I envision this album playing in the background during the most peaceful Sunday morning, warm coffee in your cup, and a lot of love in your heart.”
Described as “Bach meets Bon Jovi,” Dallas String Quartet fuses elements of modern classical and pop music into delicious sonic concoctions. DSQ has performed for Presidents Obama and Bush and was featured on the latest season of American Idol, as well as playing at the wedding of Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.
Encompassing 11-tracks, entry points on Love Always include “10,000 Hours,” which opens on luscious vibrant strings projecting luminous, layered leitmotifs.
The intertwining filaments of “Perfect Jesu” form a luxuriously gorgeous palette, infusing the tune with gossamer tones and creamy undulations. A gentle bassline provides the rhythm with a mellow cadence.
“Canon in D,” a personal favorite, glides forth on lush, evocative strings highlighted by the exquisite beauty of a violin, dripping with tender, glowing notes. While Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” made famous by Whitney Houston, soars on dynamic, scintillating strings, imbuing the tune with quixotic coloration.
DSQ’s rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” floats on liquid waves of timbres, and is followed by the last track, “Hallelujah,” which rides a low-slung, rolling piano as sumptuous, peaceful strings slide overhead.
Wonderfully arranged, Love Always gives depth and dimension to the miracle of love, as only the Dallas String Quartet can do.
