69 years ago, one of the biggest stars the world ever met, arrived on Planet Earth: David Robert Jones, better known as David Bowie was born on January 8th, 1947, in London.

Today, on his 69th birthday, Bowie released his new album since 2013: Blackstar, receiving only good critics at the moment.

Although it only features seven songs, Blackstar already has a Metacritic of 86/100, higher than his last album The Next Day.

The artist, also know by many nicknames such as “The Thin White Duke”, started making music in 1962, but it wasn’t until later, in 1969 when he reached the top of the charts with his first major hit “Space Oddity”. It didn’t take too long until he became the most iconic figure of glam rock – his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars has been named one of the greatest albums of all times, and it’s also considered the best of Bowie’s career. As an actor, Bowie has portrayed various roles in several productions, such as Jim Henson’s “Labyrinth”, Christopher Nolan’s “The Prestige” and the Broadway production of “The Elephant Man”.

In October 2015, it was announced that Bowie won’t be touring anymore, according to Music Week. John Giddings, Bowie’s former booking agent said: “David is one of the best artists I’ve ever worked with. But every time I see him now, before I even speak to him, he goes, ‘I’m not touring’ and I say, ‘I’m not asking,’”.

This Wednesday, David Bowie released the music video for “Lazarus”, the second single from Blackstar:
