Fame has a dark side. It might give one all the success in the world but with it, occasionally come habits that are anything but good. There are so many examples to prove this. Take F. Scott Fitzgerald, the popular American author was a party animal who wasted away his life and his health by indulging in the wrong things.

But there are only a few people who manage to come out of this vicious cycle. Dax Shepard is one of them. The actor is not just known for his work but also for the time when he was a huge addict. The actor has been quite vocal about his addiction in the past. Once, in an interview with Playboy, he said,

“I just loved to get f—ed-up—drinking, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, diet pills, pain pills, everything. Mostly my love was Jack Daniel’s and cocaine. I lived for going down the rabbit hole of meeting weird people. Of course, come Monday I would be tallying up all the different situations, and each one was progressively more dangerous. I got lucky in that I didn’t go to jail.”

Today, the actor took a moment to celebrate his 12 years of sobriety. He took to Twitter to announce the news with a quite wonderful message about his wife Kristen Bell and his daughters.

It takes a lot of courage and hard work to achieve what Shepard has achieved and this has not gone unnoticed. Kristen Bell, in a conversation with E!, said,

“My husband is in recovery and is almost 13 years sober. And seeing the world through his eyes has really opened mine to knowing that it is a disease and nobody is choosing to drink more than others, they are doing it because of a variety of reasons and they deserve the attention of a mental health professional, and not the county jail or however else we’re choosing to pretend we’re fixing the problem.”
