British singer and theatre actor Joe McElderry burst onto the scene back in 2009 as a cute 18-year-old on the X Factor. The then teenager was mentored by fellow Geordie Cheryl, and won the whole contest.
Since his time on the singing contest, Joe has released four hit albums; ‘Wide Awake‘ ‘Classic‘, ‘Classic Christmas‘, and ‘Here’s What I Believe‘. All the LPs were top-ten hits apart from his Christmas album which peaked at number 15.
Along with being an accomplished chart star, Joe has also carved out a very successful career for himself as a theatre star with roles in hit shows including Joseph.
His new album featuring him performing songs from Joseph is released on the 20th of February.
We wanted to find out everything about what it takes to run an update account Joe, so we have had a chat with the owner of @McElderryUpdate.
Can you explain how and when you first become a fan of Joe McElderry?
I became a fan of Joe when he auditioned for the X Factor nearly 8 years ago in 2009 and I have always supported him.
Why are you a fan of Joe McElderry?
I’m a fan of Joe because he’s a kind and generous person who does a lot for his fanbase which is called the McElderry Massive. He does a lot of charity work especially for the Teenage Cancer Trust which he has been an ambassador for since X Factor or just after he came off the show. He and his family did a bike ride around Newcastle to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust from 14th-17th July cycling 250 miles and raising £10,000.
What made you want to run an update account for Joe McElderry?
I wanted to run an update account because I’m of course a big fan of Joe and I have been running the account since 20th August 2013.
Roughly how much time do you spend running your account?
I am usually tweeting nearly everyday when I’m not out
Do you have anyone who runs the account for you if for some reason you are away?
No, I do not have any admins running this page. I have been running it all by myself since 2013.
How many followers do you currently have and do they talk to you and ask you things?
I currently have 486 followers but I am hoping to reach 1,000 followers or more by the end of this year to make the McElderry Massive grow bigger.
Would you say you have met any friends online through your account?
I haven’t met people through this account but I have met people through my personal account (This account is anonymous), only a few people know who runs this account.
Do you prefer to just write updates or post pictures on you account?
I prefer to post both updates and pictures.

Yes! Joe followed this account the day it launched on 20th August 2013.
What is your favourite Joe McElderry song?
My favourite Joe song would have to be ‘Set Your Soul Alive’ which he named his 2014 tour after, it’s a really uplifting and meaningful song and Joe wrote it himself
What is your favourite thing about Joe McElderry?
My favourite thing about Joe is that he always has time for his fans, he always organises shows every year which he has done since 2014 whether it’s his own tour or a production and he always stops at the stage door for his fans if he doesn’t have any other commitments.
If you could say one thing to Joe McElderry what would it be?
If I could say anything to Joe it would be ‘be proud of yourself and don’t let the haters get to you, keep doing what you’re doing’.
