Dermot O’Leary is well known for being a good sport and is never one to shy away from going the extra mile for the sake of entertainment, just watch his dance routines on The X Factor. So, we can imagine he jumped at the chance to partake in Ant and Dec’s ‘Get Out Of Me Ear’ prank.
The presenter starred in the Saturday Night Takeaway feature, which aired last night and had the nation in stitches.
The concept is simple. A celebrity is forced to wear an earpiece via which Ant and Dec give them embarrassing tasks to carry out in public and said celebrity must promise to partake in every single one of them. The well-loved segment of the show has seen the likes of Louis Walsh, Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch, Mel B and Cheryl become victims of Ant and Dec’s demands in the past. Despite this series of Saturday Night Takeaway nearing a close, it seems the Geordie duo have saved the best til last because this edition of ‘Get Out Of Me Ear’ was golden…and even that is an understatement.
Mr. O’Leary took part in the first ‘Get Out Of Me Ear’ in a public place in none other than Tesco and all eyes were on him as he fooled around in the aisles. Ant and Dec gave him some crazy instructions which included converting the fruit aisle into a bowling alley, climbing into a stranger’s trolley and encouraging one of the employees to put on an X Factor-style audition by singing into a cucumber.
He was also ordered to steal items from fellow shopper’s baskets, was given the microphone, with which he had to shout “bleep” every time he scanned an item at the self-service and ended by reluctantly tipping over a whole crate of eggs as part of an “Eggs Factor” pun. He then, unsurprisingly, ran away.
Viewers praised the ‘Get Out Of Me Ear’ prank on Twitter but it was no shock that it went down a treat with Takeaway fans.
