Galen James is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer, and performer who was born into an artistic family from Ann Arbor, Michigan. The talented musician began singing at a young age with the help of his inspiring mother and Grammy award-winning choir director at Huron High school, Richard Ingram.
Galen was eventually accepted into a music and jazz program at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he studied voice, piano, guitar, composition, arrangement and sang in the renowned vocal jazz ensemble Gold Company directed by Steve Zegree. So kids, practice and hard work WILL get you somewhere!
Now living in Austin, Texas, Galen is well known for his pure tone and vocals. The style of music he plays is inspired by a unique blend of R&B, pop, middle-eastern, jazz, gospel and rock.
“It’s a great feeling when people appreciate and respect your work, and that moment reinforced my decision to dedicate my life to making good music,” said Galen after winning five Downbeat Awards from the renowned Downbeat Magazine in 2009.
