At the D23 Expo on July 15, 2017, Disney announced a few actors for their live action remake of Aladdin.
Guy Ritchie will be directing the live action film. He has directed major films and T.V. shows such as the Sherlock Holmes series.
Sean Bailey, production president for Walt Disney Studios announced the cast on during a live panel at the D23 Expo. The panel was designed to announce new Disney movies and remakes. Sean announced Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine.

Mena is currently staring as Tarek Kassar in Amazon’s T.V. show, Jack Ryan.
Naomi Scott, who has been cast as Jasmine recently stared in the new Power Rangers movie. She played the Pink Ranger. She is also known for her roles in The Martian, The 33, and a Disney Channel movie titled Lemonade Mouth.
Along with announcing the lead roles, Sean also announced that Will Smith would be playing the role of the Genie.
