Disney chief executive Bob Iger has confirmed that a third stand alone film in the new “anthology” of Star Wars movies will be released in 2020.
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, Iger said a writer has been hired to begin work on the film.
The as yet untitled movie will be the third instalment in the series, which begins with ‘Rouge One: A Star Wars Story’, set to be released this December.
Rogue One, directed by Gareth Edwards, will be followed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s as yet untitled Han Solo film, due for release in 2018.
Bob recently predicted that that the first of the stand-alone series, Rogue One, would not be as successful as Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the box office.
“The level of interest (in Rogue One) is as high as it was for Force Awakens. We love what we’ve seen (because) it doesn’t fit neatly into the Skywalker saga.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the highest ever grossing film in the US, and third in the worldwide list.
