Drummer, DJ, producer, and music director DRMAGDN unveils the music video, “Something,” featuring Michelle Ray, his tribute/remix of The Beatles’ classic song.
DRMAGDN shares, “‘Something’ is my favorite Beatles tune of all time. So I jumped at the chance to do a modern remix of the song when BMG acquired George Harrison’s catalog. These musical shoes are literally the biggest in the world to fill, so I had to completely pull out all the stops on this Beatles tribute including nods to the artwork and a truly epic music video.”
The video follows DRMAGDN visiting all the locations in NYC where The Beatles appeared in 1964, on their first trip to the U.S. in 1964: JFK Airport, Ed Sullivan Theatre, and Carnegie Hall.
A who’s who lineup of talent contributed to DRMAGDN’s dazzling version of the song, including vocalist Michelle Ray, of Season 4 of The Voice fame; Grammy winner Dave Eggar on strings; Grammy winner Danny Flam on horns; and Oscar Albis-Rodriquez on guitar and bass. Vinyl mastering was handled by Andy Vandette.
Based in the West Village in NYC, DRMAGDN has performed at The Winter Olympics, Lollapalooza, Warped Tour, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Metlife Stadium, Bamboozle Fest, MTV’s TRL, AOL Sessions, The View, The Today Show, and Royal Albert Hall.
Along with touring 31 countries and 43 U.S. states, DRMAGD has played on more than 250 records, and been splashed across billboards in Times Square and the sides of buildings in NYC. If that’s not enough, he’s in the Sick Drummer Hall of Fame and was named to Blender Magazine’s Best Drummers of All Time List.
DRMAGDN writes, records, and produces all his own tracks and remixes. With over 3M views on YouTube, 1M+ total plays and 28k+ monthly listeners on Spotify, 3M views and 360k+ followers on Instagram, 2M+ plays on SoundCloud, 12M+ total views on his own and all influencer’s profiles on TikTok (208k+ followers), DRMAGDN is a tour de force of tsunami-like proportions.
For all of his releases, DRMAGDN makes a philanthropic contribution to charities that speak to the heart of the song. Specifically, for “Something” he donated to The Carnegie Hall Foundation for consideration for the educational clips in his music video, plus George Harrison’s own charity The Material World Foundation which supports social, artistic, and cultural change worldwide.
Highlighted by a brilliant drum fill, the intro of “Something” begins the song with flair, and then flows into low-slung, tender washes topped by the evocative, quixotic tones of Michelle Ray’s crème de la crème voice. As the harmonics escalate, DRMAGDN’s finessed, powerful drums imbue the tune with delicious rumbling textures, adding to the tune’s dynamic motion.
Drenched in Michelle Ray’s warm, longing tones and the vibrant surfaces of DRMAGDN’s percussive genius, “Something” glows with lustrous energy.
