Pop superstar Dua Lipa has announced that she will release a new single called ‘Swan Song’ for the forthcoming action-adventure movie Alita: Battle Angel.
The film, produced by James Cameron and Jon Landay (Avatar) and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City), will be released in the US on February 14 and follows the journey of a powerful young girl called Alita who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world with no memory of her past.
Announcing the news on social media, Dua shared her excitement and pride at being involved in “such an incredible movie with a badass female protagonist”. In a press release, she added: “I am intrigued at both Alita herself, and the amazing team of creators that came together to make this movie possible.”
“I see a little of myself in her, in both her badass spirit and our shared haircut. Alita is all about empowerment and standing up for who you are, which are two things that resonate with me.”

Producer Jon Landau also shared his delight at Dua’s involvement and revealed why he, James and Robert knew she was the ideal artist for the job. “From the moment we saw her video for ‘New Rules,’ we knew that Dua Lipa would be the perfect artist to do a song for Alita: Battle Angel.
“She has the kick-ass strength, power and attitude in her performances that Alita embodies in the movie. Jim, Robert and I are thrilled to have her onboard and are confident she will make ‘Swan Song’ the perfect inspiring and empowering anthem for our film.”
The ‘Swan Song’ announcement rounds off a perfect 2018 for Dua Lipa. Amongst her many achievements this year, the songstress won two BRIT Awards, stormed to number one in the UK with her Calvin Harris collab ‘One Kiss’, performed at the opening ceremony of the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final, collaborated with Silk City (Mark Ronson and Diplo), BLACKPINK, and Andrea Bocelli, released the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album, and received two GRAMMY nominations.
