Ed Sheeran has broken another record, becoming the first artist to reach 500 million streams on Spotify from one song!
The song in question is the brilliant Thinking Out Loud. This comes as no surprise considering that on average around 19 million people across the world stream his music every month. His songs have been played around 2.9 billion times and his music is included on 38 million playlists!
To celebrate this incredible milestone, Spotify has released a ‘Sheerio Index‘ which shows the countries that stream his music the most.
Ed said “Chuffed to hear that Thinking Out Loud has had half a billion plays on Spotify. Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix and Chill situation.”
According to the Official Charts, Ed’s album X is also the biggest selling album of the year so far, shifting 705,000 copies this year alone. He has spent 13 weeks at the top of the Album Charts since its release last year.
Ed is also celebrating the achievement of his artist Jamie Lawson. The singer songwriter, the first signing to Ed’s Gingerbread Man Records label is currently riding high at the top of the iTunes Chart with his song Wasn’t Expecting That.
