After much anticipation and eagerness from fans of all three artists, Ed Sheeran’s collaboration with Camila Cabello and Cardi B for ‘South of the Border’ now has a music video.
The video, like no-other recently released, has major James Bond vibes and to say it can be considered “action-packed” would not be doing it justice. Directed by Jason Koenig, the ‘South of the Border’ music video is inspired by spy movies with the plot revolving around trying to steal a very expensive necklace. Between the car chases, attempted kidnapping and dramatic communication through walkie talkies, viewers have been enthralled with how the track has now been connected to visuals and an unforgettable storyline.
‘South of the Border’ was released as a part of Sheeran’s No. 6 Collaborations Project. Following the project being shared with the public, the track instantly became a fan-favourite as it includes some of the industry’s most successful contributors to pop music. As a result, the music video has only added to the track’s already incredibly impressive popularity as it seems more like a mini film more than anything else.
In the video, Sheeran plays Teddy Fingers, Cabello plays the role of The Mariposa and Cardi B keeps it original by sticking to the role of Cardi B. The subtle humour, rather spectacular acting and production of the ‘South of the Border’ video has now gained over 8 million views in just a couple of days and has remained trending on Youtube ever since its release.
Throughout the video, each star remains completely in character and allows the story to come together through both their lyrics and convincing acting. It’s beyond creative and not your typical music video that viewers expect to see from an already popular track that does not necessarily need a reason to be talked about more.
On Spotify alone, ‘South of the Border’ has now racked up over 100 million streams.
