There is no stopping Ed Sheeran this year. Since making his comeback last month, the singer has released two record breaking singles: ‘Shape Of You’ and ‘Castle On The Hill’, announced his third album ÷, given us an extra taste of the album in the form of ‘How Would You Feel (Paean)’, announced a world tour, been spotted recording Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, performed at the Grammy’s and has been confirmed to perform at The BRIT Awards.
Today, Ed continues to bless us, this time with a special Radio 1 Live Lounge session. The singer joined DJ Clara Amfo in the studio for a five-track special, including his most recent singles, two classics and, as per Live Lounge tradition, a cover.
Ed kicked off his Live Lounge performance with ‘Shape Of You’ and ‘Castle On The Hill’, which continue to dominate the UK charts. Whilst Ed is challenging himself for the number one spot this week with album track ‘How Would You Feel (Paean), ‘Shape Of You’ is likely to remain at the top for a seventh consecutive week.
Next up was two of Ed’s classic and most loved songs, ‘Bloodstream’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’. His performance of ‘Bloodstream’ was described as “perfectly intense” by Clara, and we couldn’t agree more. Ed then went on to melt hearts across the country with his gorgeous ballad ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
To finish off his incredible session, Ed Sheeran took on an extra special cover by putting his spin on Little Mix’s ‘Touch’. Ed revealed that he’s a Mixer and went to see the girls live last year.
“Can I say that the one concert I went to last year [was Little Mix]. I didn’t go to any gigs and I was in Milan and I’m a Little Mix fan girl,” Ed said. “I saw a really funny meme on The Lad Bible from a bloke who had tweeted me and said, ‘Little Mix need to stop releasing songs before I go to their concert’ because they have so many bangers.”
He continued: “Who isn’t [a secret Little Mixer]? I rarely meet boys now who don’t like Little Mix, they just have hit upon hit, there’s not a song that comes out that I’m not like, ‘Oh, that’s gonna be in my head for a month now.’ They’re always on point [live].”
The girls said they’d be tuning in and we’re certain that they will love what Ed did with their latest bop!
Before his Live Lounge performance, Ed spoke to DJ Nick Grimshaw and revealed a little about what we can expect from his Brits performance tomorrow night.
“I’ve got two things dropping on Friday that are pretty interesting,” he told Nick . “One that gets debuted at the Brits, which I think people will go a bit nuts for.
“It’s something that I think nobody is expecting. I think it’ll be decent. I’ve managed to keep it secret up until now, which is good. But tomorrow night, I think we’re the penultimate act.”
We can’t wait! Ed’s Live Lounge has definitely made us even more excited for his performance tomorrow. Catch his full Live Lounge session here.
