2015 has been a strong year for the lovely Ellie Goulding. From film soundtracks to a new album, Ellie has achieved a great deal and has continued to cement her status as one of the best female singers in the world.
Back in January, it was announced that Ellie Goulding would be featured on the 50 Shades of Grey movie soundtrack. “Love Me Like You Do” was one of the most well-received songs from the film’s soundtrack, even though Ellie had initially thought about turning it down.
She told On Air with Ryan Seacrest “I wasn’t going to get involved in that soundtrack because I’ve done a lot of soundtracks and we kind of thought we’ve done a bit too much film stuff, so we should probably just chill and write that third album, which is what I should be focusing on. And then I met the director [Sam Taylor-Johnson] and everyone involved and I was like, ‘This is a pretty cool thing to be involved in.’ Then I heard the song and I was like, ‘Woah, this is a pretty awesome song.’ I didn’t know that it was going to be this big, genuinely. I thought [maybe] it would do well.”
Ellie never anticipated the global success received from “Love Me Like You Do” – the sultry track reached number one in many countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Sweden, to name but a few. It became Ellie’s second number one in the UK and remained at the top of the charts for four weeks. In its third week at number one, “Love Me Like You Do” broke the streaming record in the UK at the time. With over 2.58 million streams in a week, Ellie took the title away from Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk”. She also set a new global streaming record, with almost 15.5 million streams globally!
“Love Me Like You Do” has also been nominated for several awards. It was nominated for ‘Song from a Movie or TV Show’ at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, ‘Best Song’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards and ‘Song of the Year’ at the BBC Music Awards. Ellie has also received nominations at the People’s Choice Awards, Grammy’s and the Golden Globes, with the winners being announced next year at the respective award shows.
Ellie took the time out of her busy schedule to upload a cover of Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” in March. Her beautiful cover was well received by her fans.

In June, Ellie made an appearance on a Major Lazer track called “Powerful” alongside Tarrus Riley. The EDM power ballad went platinum in Australia but had less of an impact in the UK. However, we think that the song is extremely underrated and should have been a bigger hit in 2015! Ellie also performed at V Fest in the summer, putting on an electric performance with many calling for her to headline the festival in the future.
September was a busy month for Ellie. On the 7th of September, it was announced that she would be performing at the AFL Grand Final. Later in the month, she also released her latest single, “On My Mind”. The singer dropped hints on social media for several days before unleashing the catchy track on the world, which gave her another top 5 hit in the UK. Ellie had to shut down rumours that “On My Mind” was written about Ed Sheeran, as a reply to his song “Don’t”. She also confirmed that her third studio album Delirium would be released in November. September was also the month when the Apple Music Festival took place. Ellie headlined the opening night of the festival on the 19th of September.
Ellie travelled to Sydney in October to perform a one-off show for fans. She also attended the MTV Europe Music Awards in Milan. Despite not picking up an award for “Love Me Like You Do”, Ellie made the fashion headlines after debuting a new hairstyle along with her striking dress.
Ellie took to the X Factor stage in October for a performance of “On My Mind”. She also appeared on James Corden’s The Late Late Show in November to perform a very different remix of “Love Me Like You Do”!
Ellie released Delirium in November, which went to number three in the UK album charts. The album has since gone gold in the UK, Brazil, Mexico and Poland. She also announced that she would be touring the album in 2016, with dates from January to June in Europe and North America.
To finish off the year, Ellie treated fans to a free download of “O Holy Night“, as a thank you for all of their support this year!
Ellie has achieved so much in 2015, and with her impending tour in 2016, there’s no doubt that she will continue to shine next year. Thank you, Ellie for giving us some amazing hits this year and good luck for 2016!
