Ellie Goulding has teamed up with Diplo and Swae Lee for her new single ‘Close To Me’ as she makes her long-awaited return to music.
This is her first solo single release for one of her personal projects since the release of her 3rd studio album ‘Delirium’ which was released back in 2015. The album made top 5 in the UK peaking at number 3.
No stranger to dance-pop collaborations, after having huge success with the Calvin Harris assisted ‘I need your love’ and having previously worked with one of Diplo’s super groups Major Lazer on the 2015 hit ‘Powerful’, the pop princess goes back to a tried and tested method as she hopes for a triumphant return.
The ‘On My Mind’ singer took to twitter earlier this week to tease the track after previously wiping her social channels and premiered the new track on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show last night as Mac’s hottest record.
Speaking on the Radio 1 show, Goulding said she wrote the song in LA six months ago. “We always wanted to work together on something but we couldn’t figure out what,” as she spoke about Diplo. “This was the perfect track for him and he was really in love with it. So we got together on it and then we tried to find, basically, the perfect kind of companion with me for it. “And then Swae Lee popped up, and as soon as I heard him do his verse on it, I was like, ‘Yeah, this is perfect.’”

The light-hearted love song tells the story of two lovers who may be unconventional she wouldn’t want it any other way as she sings “I don’t want to be somebody without your body close to me”. The track infuses a guitar-heavy verse which builds to a dance injected chorus for a feel-good easy listen.
Swae Lee enters the track in the second verse lending his melodic rap vocals to the track which he seemingly fits perfectly into he overall vibe of the song.
We’re excited to hear more information on her upcoming music and will eagerly await what’s to come after this impressive easy listen comeback.
