Hollywood’s most glamorous night has made its dazzling return! Just eight months after the last ceremony, the stars flocked to Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, and what a night it was! Between the glitz, the heartwarming speeches, and some jaw-dropping wins, this year’s Emmys truly lived up to its billing as television’s biggest celebration.
Hosted by the dynamic father-son duo, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, the evening had the perfect mix of humour, nostalgia, and a few gasp-worthy surprises. From historical firsts to unexpected upsets, the 2024 Emmys reminded us once again why television is still the king of entertainment! And leading the charge was FX’s breakout drama, Shogun, which swept through the awards like a tidal wave, redefining the night.
Set in feudal Japan, powerhouse drama Shogun, stormed the stage with a staggering 18 wins, smashing the record for the most Emmys won by a single season! Not only did it dominate technical categories like cinematography, visual effects, and production design, but it also took home the night’s coveted prize—Outstanding Drama Series—making history as the first majority non-English language show to win in that category.
And that was just the beginning! The legendary Hiroyuki Sanada etched his name in Emmy history as the first Japanese actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, while the incredible Anna Sawai took home the award for Best Actress, marking a momentous first for actresses of Asian descent in the category. If that wasn’t enough, director Frederick E. O. Toye’s visionary work on the episode ‘Crimson Sky’ earned him the coveted Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series.
But Shogun wasn’t the only standout of the night. Fans of The Bear cheered as Jeremy Allen White snagged his second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy, while the hit series had everyone expecting a clean sweep. But in a surprising twist that left the audience buzzing, Hacks swooped in to claim Outstanding Comedy Series, leaving everyone with their jaws on the floor.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, the haunting limited series that had viewers on the edge of their seats, walked away with a handful of trophies. Creator Richard Gadd scored a double win, earning Emmys for both writing and acting, a rare achievement that further solidified his rising star status. And in another heartwarming moment, Jodie Foster clinched her first-ever Emmy for her electrifying performance in True Detective: Night Country, an emotional victory that had the room on its feet.
From Shogun to Baby Reindeer, this year’s Emmys proved that television is evolving faster than ever, bringing fresh voices, diverse stories, and unexpected triumphs to the forefront. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the complete list of 2024’s Emmy winners!
