Liv Keegan is a multi-talented singer and actress whose passion for the arts began when she was just seven years old.
Starting off in musical theatre, over time Liv pushed to pursue a career on the big screen. After moving to Los Angeles, it only took a month for her to be cast in the feature film Decoding Annie Parker, starring Helen Hunt, Aaron Paul and Samantha Morton. You many also know Liv from roles in Amnesiac, Modern Family, A.N.T Farm, The Thundermans and more.
You will currently find Liv on NBC’s Days Of Our Lives. She plays Claire Brady, a role which recently earned her a nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series at the 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards.
Alongside appearing on our screens, Liv is busy carving a singing career. She recently released her empowering debut single ‘Queen Is A King’, which encourages women to embrace their strengths and raise each other up. Liv is also currently working on her debut album, with more new music to be released soon including ‘Just My Type’.
We recently spoke to Liv about ‘Queen Is A King’, her forthcoming album, her incredible Daytime Emmy nomination, LA’s influence, and more.
Congratulations on the release of your debut single ‘Queen is a King’! What has the reaction to it been like so far?
Thank you so much, it’s been great! If “Queen Is A King” can help add to the momentum of the female empowerment movement in any way, I will be happy.
The track is an empowering female anthem and we’re obsessed with it! What inspired you to write it? Was there a specific event which inspired it?
Thank you! I was catching up on life and current events — how most sessions usually begin — with my co-writer Dylan Kelly and the topic of misogyny came up. We were both saying that it’s unreal that this is such a prevalent issue in our modern world. Ironically, we wrote the song in 2017, before the #TimesUp movement. We just felt that the time was right for a simple and clear female anthem and it flowed out pretty quickly after that.

When picking a debut song to release, was it important for you to choose a track which had such a strong message?
It was very important to me to release a song that was relevant and meaningful. ‘Queen is a King’ was an easy choice, given all the recent attention to the topic of sexual harassment and assault.
‘Queen is a King’ is being used in the promo for The Real Housewives of New York. How does it feel to hear your song being played in this way?
Amazing I was so thrilled that RHONY picked my song.
You’ve dropped a lyric video for the song – can we expect an official music video? If so, what can you tell us about it?
We are beginning to work on the official video now and will have more details soon!
You’re currently working on your debut album. What kind of themes and sound can we expect from it?
It’s pop music with heavy influences from many other genres like R&B, alternative, and some old classic vibes. The common thread is definitely me and my experiences/things on my mind. I’m so excited to put it out into the world.
You’ve previously covered the likes of Adele and Twenty One Pilots. Are they some of your musical influences? Who else inspires you?
Yes, I’m a big fan of Adele and Twenty One Pilots and have taken a lot of inspiration from their music. I also love to see female artists have an impact in the male-dominated industry. I’ve really been inspired by Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé, Amy Winehouse, Gwen Stefani, and many more. Of course, I’m also a big fan of classics like The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, and other modern artists such as John Mayer and Kanye West.
Aside from singing, you’re also a successful actress. How do you find the time to balance both aspects?
It’s honestly never been that difficult for me. I think that’s because I’m so lucky in that I love both of my jobs so much. There’s not a lot of down time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You’re currently playing Claire on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. What do you enjoy the most about playing Claire?
The wardrobe! Just kidding…kind of. ;) They always have the best clothes for me on set. It’s mostly Free People, which is my favorite.
As for my real favorite part about playing Claire, she’s ever-evolving! It’s an actor’s dream because sometimes you feel like you’re playing 10 different characters within a month. There’s always an opportunity to push your limits.
What are the main similarities and differences between you and Claire?
We dress the same— except Claire’s clothes are a bit more put-together than mine. We also both use music/songwriting as an outlet. In terms of personality, I’d like to think we’re not too similar, as Claire can be a brat. Although, I do think that she has a good heart and I hope she’ll find how to use it one day.
You were nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series – congratulations! How did it feel to be nominated?
Thank you so much! It felt like a dream and I am incredibly honored to have received the nomination.
Where were you and what were you doing when you found out the news?
I was hanging in the living room with my cat I got a tweet from The Talk that I was nominated. I didn’t believe that it was true at first, so I didn’t want to say anything to my parents. I was in shock and did some research just to make sure. When I realized it was true, I told my parents and we shed many happy tears!

What would be your dream role in the future?
I heard that there’s going to be a female Indiana Jones…that would be awesome. I’ve also always loved Penny Lane in Almost Famous (Kate Hudson’s role) – that’s one of my favorite movies.
You moved to LA back in 2011. How has the city inspired and influenced you as a person?
I really love LA. A lot of people move here to pursue their “crazy” dreams and I think that’s what gives the city the exciting energy that it’s known for. It’s a melting pot of all different types of people so you’re exposed to many different perspectives, which hopefully keeps people more open-minded. I’m constantly inspired by the things I see on the street, the people I’m meeting, the views and the entertainment here.
Are there any other plans in the pipeline you can tell us about?
I just released a new single called “Just My Type” and there is much more to come soon. You can follow me on social media @oliviarosekeegan to keep up with all of my new projects coming out this year!
