If you’ve yet to hear of Yellow Claw, then where have you been? The Dutch DJ duo have been making bops since 2010 and in the process have achieved some sensational things.
During their career so far, they have racked up over 526 million YouTube views and have over six million monthly Spotify listeners. The duo have worked with a whole host of incredible artists including Major Lazer, Iggy Azalea, and DJ Snake, and in the process have performed sold out shows and festivals across the globe.
On June 22, Yellow Claw will be releasing their brand new album New Blood, and earlier today the duo dropped a brand new track from it. ‘Bittersweet’ is an electric collaboration with Latin sensation Sofia Reyes and is set to be a huge release for the duo.
We recently had the chance to ask Yellow Claw about their ‘Bittersweet’, New Blood, collaborations and more. Check it out below.
Hey Yellow Claw, welcome to CelebMix. First off, please introduce yourselves with an unusual fact.
We have a contract in place that in Yellow Claw, Jim can be the only one with a beard.
We’re obsessed with your new single ‘Bittersweet’. Can you tell us a little about the inspiration behind the song?
It’s a sweet little sexy song. Just like Sofia.
The track is a collaboration with Latin songstress Sofia Reyes. How did this come about?
We just met a while back. Just like that. The beauty of LA we guess. Everybody is here.
What was the creative process like for ‘Bittersweet’? How long did it take to put the track together?
So easy. Sofia is really talented. We went into the studio twice. Once for a demo version, and then Sophie came in to record the final vocals. She’s such a good singer. We’re obsessed with her “Me Gusta” ad-libs in the back of the song.
‘Bittersweet’ is taken from your forthcoming album ‘New Blood’. How are you feeling ahead of the album’s release?
Excited. Ready to play all these new songs in our shows. And of course we’re always super curious what our fans think of the new music. We’re also dropping a brand new New Blood clothing line parallel with the album in our Blood for Mercy streetwear line. Full circle!
Is there a particular song on the album which stands out as a favourite of yours?
We love how Summertime came together. Nils is singing for the first time on that song. And San Holo, a producer friend of ours, plays a guitar solo on the outro. It’s what the new generation is all about in one song.
The album features a whole host of collaborations. Who was your favourite artist to work with?
ASAP Ferg. We wanted him on a song for so long. And it finally happened. Legend.
You’ve worked with some huge names in the past. Who would be your dream collaboration on your future music?
Rihanna. She’s still the boss after all those years of being on top.
How has your home country influenced your music?
A lot. We love the trap ravers because of our Dutch roots.
Who are some of your favourite artists? Are there are any rising Dutch stars we should be looking out for?
Danish producer Stoltenhoff and American producer Juyen Sebulba are making crazy stuff lately.
You’ll be spending the summer on tour. What can an audience expect from a Yellow Claw show?
Everything NEW NEW NEW.
What do you enjoy the most about being out on the road?
Different cultures, the food, and seeing our friends who are spread out over this entire globe.
You’ve already achieved some great things during your career – what are you aiming for next?
Time is becoming more valuable than ever. We’re seeking the perfect balance between down time and up time.
What else do you have in store for 2018?
We’re literally gonna have so much in store for 2018. New Blood For Mercy clothing collections are dropping really really soon and there will be more pop-up stores this year than we’re ever done before.
Thank you to Yellow Claw for their time. Make sure you check them out on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
