We got to ask Draper about his amazing new single, ‘Never Say Never’ featuring the vocals of Hannah Jane Lewis.
Since 2012 when Draper performed to a sold out Wembley Stadium for Capital Radio Summer Ball, he has become one of the highest in-demand production and writing talents.
Draper has had support from BBC Introducing as well as Spotify’s New Music Friday in the UK, Germany, Israel, and Switzerland.
We think that Draper’s new song is an upbeat but relatable song. Our interpretation of ‘Never Say Never’, is that the lyrics represent being in a relationship, where the person has helped you to become a better person. A relationship where they build you up as a person. Which can be related to close friendships.
Here is what we asked, and how Draper responded to our questions.
What was your favourite thing about the recording process of “Never Say Never?”
The fluid creativity that catalysed the whole process. We had such an awesome vibe in the session that the song flowed so naturally. When that happens it just feels so good! We were able to record the final vocals in the first session because Hannah is just that good…
Do you think that this is among the best songs you have produced/written?
Without a doubt! I spent many hours perfecting it to make sure it had the best sonic opportunity because it’s such an awesomely written song! Hannah and Lauren Miles absolutely smashed the top line for this record.
What was your favourite thing about working with Hannah on this amazing song?
She’s a ball of energy! She’s got such a great vibe that makes the process so enjoyable. She asks some pretty hilarious questions too.
How do you hope people will relate + connect with the song?
I hope people relate/connect however they want, there’s no guideline or expectation. Everyone will find their own meaning in the lyrics and the melody which is what it’s all about.
What artist would you love to collaborate with next?
There are so many great up-and-coming artists it’s hard to narrow it down but I’ve been listening to Liv Dawson recently! Emily Burns has also been on fire recently.
