Adam Prince King is a fast rising UK based singer/songwriter who is set to make a name for himself in 2018. His latest EP has been well received by fans and critics alike and he is only getting stronger with each release.
Here we speak exclusively to Adam about his new music, musical inspirations, future plans, and much, much more;
Growing up who inspired your love of music?
I grew up with the radio always on playing old Greek songs, and my brother was in a Greek band so there was always music in the house. We had an old record player and I was always fascinated by this magical turntable that made me dance. I had to entertain myself a lot as my mum was always working on her industrial sewing machine, and music was a friend to me. I remember listening to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and feeling hyperactive! We didn’t have much English music but one of my favourite films was Labyrinth and I wanted to be David Bowie and I loved the songs. I used to watch Labyrinth and Return to Oz EVERY. DAY.
Have you always known a career in music was for you?
I think I was destined to be some kind of performer, and music is just the road I eventually took, but it could have just as easily been acting. When I was a kid I used to make my cousins put on plays. My cousin Eleni still has a contract she made me sign where I promise to never make her do another show again.
Who are your all time musical heroes?
I think people have picked up on my love of Bowie. Also a big an of Kate Bush and Prince and depending on my mood I head further back in time and listen to Joni Mitchell and Cat Stevens a lot. I don’t listen to modern music too much and I don’t want my music to be coloured too much by what I hear on the radio. I’m a big PJ Harvey fan but I am also a bit of a Britney fan. Her and Michael Jackson as performers at their pinnacle are something else. Mesmerising. I think my songs Are a bit of a mish mash of all my influences and “Flamingos” and “Witches” are good examples of this.
If you could collab with anyone who would you choose?
I‘d love to write a song with Sia. Her hooks are off the hook.
What inspired your new single?
With “Witches” I came up with the title and went from there. I’d been dreaming mad witch shit for a while and had a load of imagery in my psyche. The production came easily and is quite dramatic with some fresher trap and edm vibes and some haunting vocal effects. “Flamingos” is like a homage to 80’s/90’s soul with a tropical 2017 twist. They are my 2 favourite tracks from the EP.
Can fans expect an album from you soon?
I love albums and I am sad they they do not have the magic they once had. I will make one but I think it’s a bit of a way off.
Do you have any touring plans lined up?
I’d love to tour in 2018 and fingers crossed will get to play in the states too. I feel totally at home on stage, but I get super nervous sometimes and it has kept me away from gigging, but I’m determined to feel the fear and do it anyway!
What was your highlight of 2017?
There’s been a few but I think signing my EP to My label Little Assembly has to be up there.
What can we expect from you in 2018?
I made 3 music videos in 2017 for “Witches,” “Flamingos” and “Before The Sun Goes Down” and I’d like to make a few more this year and spend some time writing and gigging.
