DJ Regard is fresh off the charts, having been propelled to stardom with the release of his latest single “Ride It”. The track is a remix of the original Jay Sean track, released in 2008, and it has experienced an unexpected amount of success on social media app Tik Tok. This success has further translated over to the UK Singles Chart, where it has peaked at #2, and could potentially be on its way to become a chart topper.

We at CelebMix got the chance to speak to Regard himself about the remix and how it has become so successful. Read on to find out more…

What inspired you to remix “Ride It”?

I’ve worked on a lot of older songs because I tend to prefer older music more than modern ones, I feel like I can really bring something new to older songs with new production techniques and styles that I use. I was really inspired by Jay Sean’s lyrics and vocals; the song manages to stay cool but also at this faster speed than the original felt like something that could be a hit to me!

What inspired the composition behind the remix?

I just feel like the song fit so well in my production style and so once I started working on it, the drop section that I composed just came so naturally. The minor melodies fit so well within the rest of the song and the chord progression.

Were you surprised when the remix took off on Tik Tok?

I was a little surprised with the Tik Tok success to be honest, but the remix had some success before on YouTube, it was around 6 million views but was deleted. There were many good comments saying they had a feeling I would succeed!

Why do you think the remix has experienced success?

Because it is a combination of multiple things meeting. A great song, produced in a different and relevant sound and then on such a special platform like Tik Tok allowed people to interact with the song in a way that wasn’t available when the original version came out.

The song has currently peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart. Do you think it could hit the top spot and become a number 1?
I’m just very happy with the success of this song! It is becoming a huge hit all around the world and I just hope as many people as possible get to take enjoyment from it.

Has Jay Sean, the mastermind behind the original track, had anything to say about the remix and its success?
Jay Sean is very happy with the remix and we have been talking a lot, Maybe in the future we will have an original song together!

What got you into becoming a DJ/producer?
My love of music from a young age led me to create good music for all people because, music is the art of expressing feelings and thoughts through sounds and melodies!

What other types of songs have you remixed in the past?
Lots of different songs from all different genres, mostly songs that are old! The Kelly Family, Eagles, Coldplay, Madonna. Also I remixed LP’s Lost On You a few years back, that song is so special her vocals are amazing.

Who are some of your musical influences?

Tiesto, Avicii, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Bryan Adams, Elton John are all influences of mine with their different sounds!

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Tiesto because he has been such a huge huge inspiration to me always in my life. He has done so much for growing dance music all around the world for such a long time and still today means so much.

What are some of your favorite songs / remixes at the moment?
Meduza, Becky Hill, Goodboys – Lose Control and Riton, Oliver Heldens – Turn Me On ft Vula.

Following on from the success of “Ride It”, what’s next for you?
To bring out other hits, to create even better music so that success doesn’t just stop with one song! I am working on many new songs, collaborations and remixes. I am more motivated now than ever before.

Finally, do you have anything that you would like to say to your fans/supporters?
Thank you so much for supporting me so far, I’m going to work harder to bring you good music. I love you all!
