Here we speak exclusively to Aslove about that remix, long term career goals and much more;
What made you want to remix this particular Katy Perry song?
To be completely honest, it was not like me choosing the song to remix. I was asked to remix this song by my label, Capitol, and I immediately knew it would be a great opportunity to rework such an original tune. Moreover, I really loved the Migos vocal part inside this track. I’m French, the track name is ‘Bon Appétit’, it was quiet an evidence for me. I’m very grateful Katy’s management approved my remix and it was a big step in my young career for sure.
How did you break the track down for remixing?
As often, I totally restarted from scratch. I only played with the vocals. I played new synths, defined new chords, and it all became very natural to me.
Can fans expect more remixes soon?
Well yes, I’ve started 2018 with a lot of remixes. I’ve got a lot to be released in the next weeks, for artists like Mosimann, Kev, Snow Patrol, Huko, Maan on The Moon and LeMarquis. Plus, I’ve just released my remixes for Jacob Banks, Portugal The Man and Mattway. You can check them all from my Soundcloud.
You’re also gearing up for the release of your new EP, when can we expect that to be released?
I’ve released the lead single from my EP a few month ago. Now that ‘So High’ has been played a lot in many countries, my EP should be available real soon, even if I will also release a remix pack for ‘So High’ early March, with reworks by 3 French buddies : Hugel, LeMarquis and Retrovision. Then, my ‘Preface(s)’EP should be out in March, too, I guess…
What can fans expect from the EP?
They could be surprised ! My aim is to showcase my three main artistic influences on this first EP. It means I’ve included 3 tracks quite different in the making. While ‘So High’ reflects my taste for Pop music, ‘When You’re Crazy’ goes into my bluesy and funky roots. ‘Heart’ is more urban and downtempo, too. So this is really eclectic and I hope fans will enjoy me exploring several vibes.
With all your new music can we expect to see you on tour this year?
Yes, I’ve started touring my own country and I’ve got great shows to come in the next months. I’ll play Paris on March 15th as the support act of one of my favourite electronic bands, Goldfish. It’s very exciting !
Do you have any plans to release an album soon?
My EP is also named ‘Preface(s)’ because it’s aimed to be the starting point for my first LP. I’ve got tons of tracks ready to be packed into an album but it’s a long process and I’ve still got much work to complete and finalise all the songs before thinking of it. Moreover, releasing an album nowadays is something involving a lot of strategy and I’m not alone as I’m signed to Universal Music…
Which other artists/songs are you looking to remix in the future?
I wouldn’t decline a remix for someone like Bruno Mars!
What are your long term career goals?
I’m trying to build my artist profile without being stuck to one musical genre. I want to find the balance between producing Pop-maisntream music and being a crossover DJ, able to play House or whatever kind of dance music. As I’m only 22, I take time to make things correctly and I’m lucky to have a great team around me so I’m learning a lot everyday. When I’m touring as a DJ, I enjoy each moment and wish it could last for many years. I wish I could keep on producing a lot in the studio without stopping to travel as a DJ. That will be a kind of challenge, hope you’ll be here to follow me!
