Go Freek recently released a new bop that listeners cannot get out their heads. The track, ‘One Question,’ features the incredible Yeah Boy and shows off both collaborators skills effortlessly. While still focusing on the single’s power sonically, fans now get to see their strength in songwriting as well. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Go Freek opened up about this new track and more.
What can you tell us about the new single ‘One Question’ and the inspiration behind it?
The chord, pads and piano that you hear was the building platform for everything on the record, they have like a warm yet sensitive discomfort feeling and Yeah Boy compliments this feeling with a flowing lyrical story about questioning a break up, t’was then my honour to make this into a dance record that bangs as well as tells a story! I love using deep brass elements; they have a dirty yet sophisticated sound to them.
Will this track be a part of an upcoming project or body of work?
Watch this space.
How was it to work on this song with Yeah Boy?
He’s a weapon! And a perfectionist and also brutally honest. After the vocal was so perfectly nailed I worked on the final direction tirelessly, I’d send him something I thought was hot and he’d shut me down politely and encourage we can do better and I love that. You need someone in your life that’s honest even when you don’t want to hear it and it was so good once he loved the version that it is today because I did too!
For new fans who may have just heard this new single, what do you want them to know about Go Freek?
Go Freek started on the foundations that we wanted to break away from the normal that was being produced and played in clubs, the project has now evolved into something that is more mature sounding but still has that same rule of being true to what we want to hear, not what others do.
If you could go on tour with anyone in 2020, who would it be and why?
Cassian is the first person that came to my head. I’d want tour with someone I can learn from as well; the guy is low key the master producer… and I have a man crush on him. There I said it.
What can fans look forward to in the near or distant future?
As I grow as a producer and DJ, it means the music released will be stronger. We’ve had ideas and unreleased tracks that are being polished and perfected right now that will be released to the world. So that means 2015 (and the other wonder years) Go Freek will be released with the 2019 standard. Time traveling essentially.
Thank you, Go Freek, for taking the time to speak with CelebMix.
