Micky James is a fast rising gritty glam rock’n’roll artist. James has just released his debut single ‘Give It To Me Straight’.
Here we speak exclusively to Micky James about David Bowie inspirations, new music, album release and much, much more;
Your new single ‘Give It To Me Straight’ is inspired by David Bowie, what made you want to channel that inspiration into a song?
Well, i think if your an artist you are inspired by him one way or another. For me, His sense of spirit and rebellion plays such a large factor In the way I want my music to be presented. ‘Give It To Me Straight’ I think expresses that ethos.
Have you always been inspired by Bowie?
I discovered Bowie later in my musical journey, when I started to write songs and sing. Initially I gravitated towards his voice. There wasn’t many singers I could relate to and find common ground with when I started and was developing, as I sang in a lower register. When I heard his delivery on “China Girl” or “Modern Love” , that was sort of it for me. I was so connected to his personality in his voice, it helped me discover mine.
What do you hope listeners take from the single?
I want listeners to feel excited, to want more. It’s a good 3 minute, straight to the point introduction of what I have to offer.
How would you describe the songs sound in 3 words?
Liberating , rebellious, charismatic
When can fans expect an album from you?
No set plans for a release at the moment, but a lot more music will be released this year. More singles, [and] an EP.
Do you have any touring plans lined up?
Again, nothing set at the moment, but working on it! I’ll be performing around my home city of New York up until touring plans become more solidified.
