OMEGA X – ‘JUNK FOOD’ (Official Music Video)
Made up of Jaehan, Hwichan, Sebin, Hangyeom, Taedong, Xen, Jehyun, Kevin, Junghoon, Hyuk and Yechan, the OMEGA X story is one of resilience and perseverance, with all 11 members having previously appeared in survival shows or in K-pop groups before joining forces to from OMEGA X.
Currently on tour in the US, we caught up with the band to talk about ‘iykyk’, life on the road, and what they have planned for 2024…
Congratulations on the release of your 3rd mini album! Talk to us about the inspiration behind the concept?
Jaehan: So the title of this album is ‘IYKYK’, and it really carries the story of the Omega X members all 11 of us and we know it’s especially more meaningful, because we were able to really convey like different various emotions by participating in all 5 tracks ourselves as well so we really wanted to show that we are eager to share our story and music with our fans moving forward.
What are some of your favourite songs on the album, and why?
Xen: I really like ‘Touch’ because I think it carries quite a contrasting atmosphere from our title track ‘JUNK FOOD’, and showcases a softer side to us – it’s more bubbly, light, and fun!
Jehyun: My favourite track is also ‘Touch’ because it tells a nice story, and it provides people going through a hard time with a sense of comfort – the lyrics convey a really beautiful message. When we perform it live, we do a brilliant dance routine which was choreographed by me, Junghoon, and Yechan, so shout out to them.
Can you tell us a little bit about your creative process? And what memories you have from that time?
Sebin: Being in the studio is always fun, but for me, the time we’ve spent shooting the music videos has been the most memorable and interesting! It can be challenging making a video – and trust me, we faced many – but it’s also a lot of fun, and a great way to let off steam and express yourself after spending so much time recording. I think the visuals we’ve created really showcase how much we’ve grown as a band and as artists, which makes me really happy – I’m excited for people to see what we’ve come up with.
What message do you hope to convey through your new material?
Jaehan: We really want to send out positive and encouraging messages to people! We want everyone to know that no matter how much you’re struggling, or how tired you are feeling of everyday life, you will one day find your purpose and things will get better for you. We like to think that our music motivates people, that’s really important to us. We’re very honest, and we say that at some point in life, you’re going to fall down, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up! You just have to keep moving forward and keep focused on your dreams.
How would you say this project differs from your previous releases?
Jehyun: In the past we’ve shown more of sexy, powerful but cute side to our personalities. Now we want to show how diverse and deep we can be with the concepts we create in our songs. ‘JUNK FOOD’ is very high energy, and anthemic, but there are other tracks that allow us to be a little more relaxed and chilled. Lyrically we like to put positive messages out there – I don’t think that will ever change. So yeah, it’s maybe more versatile than previous albums we’ve done. Also, it’s really important to mention that ALL members of the band have played a part in every single one of the songs.
You’re currently on tour in the US! What do you love most about life on the road?
Hwichan: We love having the opportunity to see our fans! They give us so much energy when we’re on stage – we actually can’t believe how supportive they are of us, it’s amazing! It’s so cool to travel to different places and connect with our audience on a deeper level. We’ve worked hard and we want to give them an amazing show.
What do you have planned for the rest of 2023, and then 2024?
Yechan: We have quite a bit of promotion still to do this year, and of course the tour!.. hopefully none of us will get sick or injured… that’s a major goal (laughs). In 2024, we just want to be happy and do more of what we love. We’ve faced quite a few hardships and struggles recently, so we’re hoping for more positivity in the new year. And also to keep connected with our fans.
What message would you like to give to fans, and readers of CelebMix?
Yechan: Firstly, I’d like to say ‘hello’ to you, the person reading this! We’re so grateful to you, for being so patient and welcoming us back after we were away for such a long time. We can’t wait to visit you in your country, and share our new music. We hope only good things come your way, and that you continue to support OMEGA X. We love you, thank you for supporting us.
