Samuel Jack a passioned storyteller through his music with a deep, soulful voice to make it all the more emotive and beautiful. His inspirations of blues and rock create a sound like no other. CelebMix recently sat down with the singer-songwriter to talk about his inspirations, his EP, and what he has planned for the future.

Tell us a little bit about being noticed then being asked to play Glastonbury.
Sure, for starters I’ll never forget it! I was playing some of my songs in a pop-up restaurant not too far from Glastonbury itself, a lady approached me after and just said ‘ do you wanna play at Glastonbury?’ It was one of those, I’ll have to check my diary but I’m pretty sure I’m free from now until the end of time moments! Of course, I jumped at the chance – two weeks later I opened the Avalon Stage – surreal to say the least!
How would you describe your sound?
I draw influence from old soul, blues and roots music – but I’ve got my own voice, and I’d like to think my sound is an original and contemporary nod to those sounds of old – with a dash of pop.
Any influences that have shaped your music?
Relationships and many of the places I’ve lived and spent time in have definitely shaped the way I make music. South Africa was a big influence on me – it’s where I fell in love with the big gang vocal sounds of the communities there – that coupled with my Mums country and rock collection, and my dad’s love of the blues.
Tell us about the EP
I’m so happy with it! It’s a collection of songs that I’ve written about love, life and loss – some of the songs on the record stem from a bit of a dodgy time I was going through a while back, others are just about having fun, being together and wearing your heart on your sleeve. I wrote a lot of the EP in my Caravan in somerset, where I live and work.
Where would you like your sound to go?
As far as possible! The most important thing for me is writing music that resonates with people, and I’d travel the world to make that happen.
What’s the story behind “Let It All Out”?
Let it All out is a song about release, about letting go, being together, admitting your mistakes and being okay.
What are your plans ahead? More touring or album?
Both I hope. I’m currently on my first UK tour, alongside each city show, I’m doing pop-up busking spots, and popping in to play a few songs on the radio. I’ve had some brilliant shows so far in London, Manchester, and Brighton, and this week head to Bristol, Cardiff, and then wrap up with a hometown show in Bruton (SW), for which we’ve just added a second date :) I’m hoping to get back on the road again early next year to support my next release and then hopefully head into Europe and definitely more dates throughout the UK. Album wise – you’ll just have to keep listening to find out ;)
