We recently got to have a chat with singer/songwriter HRVY about the release of his EP, plans for his tour and the future.
The 18 year old singer became a social media sensation on such platforms as Instagram and Musical.ly. He’s amassed over 900,000 followers on Musical.ly, 1.3 million followers on Instagram and over 300,000 on Twitter. Before his fame on social media he was a presenter on BBC’s Friday download. After that he took to social media and released his first EP, ‘Holiday’ on July 25th 2017.
Hello, Hrvy, thank you so much for taking the time to have a chat with us.
Oh no, thank you very much.
Firstly we just want to congratulate you on your new EP ‘Holiday’, what has the reaction been like?
It was a really good reaction actually, a lot of my fans really like the music and Spotify played it a lot so I think it was a good reaction.
That’s amazing, you must be so appreciative of your fans then?
Yes, so appreciative, they have been really really supportive, especially online, they’ve been really really good.
Yes I’m sure, so were there any songs that you’re the most proud of?
I like Phobia, I really like that song, I like them all for different reasons but I like Phobia.
So was there a reason that inspired you to write that song?
It was one of the first songs that I did so that’s why its so special.
It must be so overwhelming for you to release a song or even an album that can impact on your fans the way that you have. For that reason who was your musical influence when you were younger that made you start writing and become a singer?
A big inspiration of mine was Justin Timberlake from a young age and I feel like Craig David but I actually got quite a lot of inspiration from Youtube actually, watching a lot of cover artists, I liked what they did and how they changed things up.
That’s brilliant, so obviously as there are so many artists, do you really think you could be up there, bring something different to the music scene, even be the next big thing?
I hope so, that’s the dream, I think I can, just stay humble, keep working and delivering stuff.
Yeah, what were some of the messages you were trying to give out to fans when you were writing your songs?
It’s different for every song, the lyrics to certain songs is more about kind of love and that kind of stuff. My message to people in general, aside from the songs is to go out and work hard. Aspire to be anything you want and follow your dreams.
That’s a really good message especially with your fans being teenagers and some may be struggling but you’re really showing them to work hard and be positive.
Exactly, a lot of young people struggle at my age with school and other stuff so hopefully my music can help them out a little bit.
Yeah and obviously everyone goes through different obstacles through life, so what do you think was the hardest one for you?
Probably school, like going through my GCSE’s and that last year and a half that was hard to do but we got there, I did ok!
So plans for tour, have you got any?
Yeah, so I’ve just come off tour with a few friends in America, so we did America for a little bit and then I did a tour earlier this year, around the UK and I’ve actually got a show coming up on the 22nd September at the O2 Academy in London. But obviously one day I’d love to do it on my own and maybe even arenas.
Yes that’s big, keep getting yourself out there and you’ve got more chance! But what are your future plans apart from tour, have you got any?
Yes, just keep on in the studio, keep writing songs and we are currently getting together the second EP which we will be releasing in the next few months so thats what we are focused on at the moment and then shoot music videos for the EP and just get ready for that.
Finally, is there anything you’d personally like to say to your fans?
i just want to say THANK YOU, a massive thank you to every single one of you that stream my music, who support and who come and see me, you’re all amazing and I love every single one of you.
