Andy Jordan is best known for his starring role in the reality drama series Made In Chelsea is stepping away from what he calls a toxic environment in social media, he called the outlet “a culture that is really scary” in a recent interview with the BBC.
Now, opting for what he calls a more “real” life, Jordan is now attempting to live out his hopes and dreams by pursuing his musical passions with the release of his soulful new single ‘Gin & Jazz” which is his first release since his 2016 EP ‘Another Man’s Eyes’.
Here we speak exclusively to Andy Jordan to discuss his first record in three years, the changing music industry, future plans and more:
Your new single is out now and is your first new music since 2016, how does it feel to be back?
It feels great. Feels better than ever. For the first time in my life I feel amazing about the music I’m releasing. It’s authentic and as a result I’m confident about its release.
How much do you feel the industry has changed in the 3 years you have been away?
I feel like the growth of streaming platforms like Spotify has actually improved the opportunity for people like me to create the music they want to create and the industry has transitioned from being reliant on writing radio hits into a space where artists can be discovered by fans of any particular genre. Music today is about what anybody wants to listen to.
When writing this new track did you go into it with the mindset “it’s a comeback single” or did you just take it as a new challenge?
Neither. I never think about what I am doing when I am writing a song. It just happens. 80 percent them get left on the computer and this one just so happened to feel right.
Can you tell us a little about what inspired the track?
Gin & Jazz was inspired by reminiscing on treasured times whilst listening to Chet Baker on vinyl on a Sunday evening.
With your new release dropping this month can we expect an EP from you soon?
Yes the EP is half written, and as with all of these things I have a bunch of songs that I’m super excited to release as soon as possible. For me though it’s about getting the narrative of the entire record correct, it’s a story of my life and I want to make sure I tell it in a way others can relate to as it’s about an honest journey that I feel is shared by many.
