Dalimore (Dan Bishop) is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter from Newcastle England.
Since 2014 the young rising star has been know as Dalimore after deciding his birth name sounded more like a politician rather than an artist.
Dalimore has been singing and writing his own songs since the age of 9.
I was lucky enough to secure an interview with the singer, to chat all things music, including his new single ‘Lost’ and what he hopes to achieve in the future.
What is your earliest memory of music?
I remember my mum listening to Westlife and Boyzone constantly. They were her two favourite bands.
Who was your childhood hero?
When I was child I used to look up to Simon Webbe, from the band Blue.
How old were you when you first performed live?
I was aged 9 when I first performed live. I remember being terrified.
What has been the biggest gig you have performed?
I was extremely lucky to play a night at the city Hall in front of 2,200 people. I loved it!
How did the name Dalimore come about?
The name Dalimore came around in 2013 before I started the project. One of my friend’s second name is Dallimore. And when I said it out loud I liked the sound of it so I decided to use it with one of the L’s removed.
You describe your sound as, Pop/soft rock/soul, that is a lot of genre’s to cover, where do you see yourself in the current market?
I feel like the music crosses those particular boundaries, however, personally I believe it’s more Alternative Pop.
If you could compare yourself with any artist who would you say you’re similar to?
Many people have said “Years and Years”. But I think personally I would compare the music to Coldplay and The Fray.
Which instruments do you play?
I play Piano, Synths, and Guitar.
Tell us about your new single ‘Lost’?
Would you rather have a number 1 single or win a BRIT?
I would much prefer to win a BRIT Award.
Would you ever consider auditioning for a show such as the X Factor?
At this current moment I can’t see myself auditioning for one of those types of shows.
How do you feel about free music streaming?
I would rather people stream music for free than illegally download it. I think we all need to evolve and move on with the times. I love technology and adapting to new things.
What would be your dream venue to perform at?
I would love to perform the main stage at Glastonbury.
If you could collaborate with any singer/band who would you choose?
I would love to perform with Coldplay, that’s the dream.
If you could work with any producer who would you choose?
Max Martin.
What is your favourite song in the charts at the moment?
‘I’ll Show You’ – Justin Bieber.
Who inspired you to become a performer?
Chris Martin from Coldplay.
Apart from music what do you enjoy doing?
When I’m not doing music I love to socialise with my friends, play football, spend time with my fiancée and play computer games. I’m a child at heart.
If you weren’t a singer what career would you have chosen?
I would be a teacher working in secondary schools.
What would you like to achieve in the next ten years?
I would love to be able to make a living from what I’m doing. Be Successful, and for people to be able to connect to my music.
