Grace Gracie is a hugely impressive DJ/Producer who is well known for her inspirational electronic beats and colourful chord progressions. Last month she released her standout new single ‘Feels Right’ which is already gaining huge streaming numbers and is putting Gracie on the map as the current go to producer and DJ.
Here we speak exclusively to Grace Gracie to discuss her career so far:
While growing up, what/inspired your interest in DJing and producing?
Music always made me feel free; it could take my mind off of anything so I just wanted to be engulfed in sound all the time. I was the youngest of five sisters, so imagine me 3 foot tall lugging this huge boom box around making my sisters stop everything they were doing to listen to my favorite songs. I was DJ Bam-Bam on a mission. Later when I discovered Carl Cox, Tiesto, and Calvin Harris I knew what I wanted to do in life. They were my earliest influences.
How old were you when you first started thinking that your DJing could turn into a career?
Honestly, as long as I could remember, and at one point I realized that I wanted more, I wanted to be part of the creation itself. I wanted to make my own music.
Do you have a favourite song you have produced?
I’m proud of all of my songs, they are all different in some way, because they capture different emotions… and there are some new ones in the pipelines that I’m really-really excited about.
You’ve been playing shows all over the world recently, what’s that been like?
I have been traveling a lot, making appearances but I wasn’t on tour officially. I was on stage only to support my friends, my fellow artists, but I can’t wait to hit the road with a set that includes my own music. That’s were my focus was in the last couple of years, there was a lot of music in my head I wanted to get out.
Your new single ‘Feels Right’ is out now, what inspired this track?
Actually, I was in Hawaii just having a good time, high on life so naturally everything that came to my mind had a summer kind of vibe. Feels Right came out of that Hawaiian batch of song ideas.
What are you hoping fans take from the single?
Every song is a time capsule of a moment in life. Hopefully it takes them to the place it came from. Summer breeze and careless freedom.
What was the writing process like for the track?
I either have a melody in my head, or a very specific vibe I want to capture. Sometimes I sing it and sometimes I just plunk around on the piano trying to find it, then everything builds from there.
What else can fans expect from you in 2019?
I have a full library of new tunes that I can’t wait to share, and I’m itching to hit the road at one point and play them myself
