Pop singer-songwriter Jake Miller has had a pretty successful career at 26 years old. He started off being an independent artist and grew a following on YouTube. Eventually, that attention lead to getting singed by a label that put him on the track to become a pop star. After a few years, he parted with the label and went indie once again. His hard work and determination landed him with another record contract with Sony Music. Miller is preparing to hit the road starting next month in Las Vegas, NV. Miller recently released his single “Wait For You,” which the tour is named after. CelebMix had the chance to chat with Jake Miller ahead of his tour.
Congrats on being signed with Sony! How does it feel being with a label again?
It feels amazing to be with a label that gives me 100% creative control. SONY/RED has been so passionate about me and my music and I really feel the love. I know we’ll do great things together.
Your two last albums you were independent, do you think that will change a lot being on a label now?
Even though I am a signed artist again now, I will continue to write and produce my own music by myself. Every now and then I invite some friends over to help, but for the most part, it’s much more fun doing everything by myself.
Your first single with Sony is “Wait For You,” how did that come together?
I wanted to make a song that was 80’s inspired. I combined 2019 electronic synths/plucks with 80’s drums and an 80’s driving bass. I love how it feels like multiple songs in one. Lyrically, I wanted to write a song about waiting for someone because I know it’s something a lot of people can relate to. You’ll always wait for someone if you think they’re worth the wait.
What can we expect from this EP?
My forthcoming EP includes 6 of my favorite songs I’ve ever made. I’ve pushed myself to try new thing and it really paid off. It’s dropping this month before tour!
What are you excited about for the Wait For You Tour?
I am so excited to see how these new songs connect with fans. I can’t wait to see them scream every word.
Do you have a favorite song to perform live?
My favorite song to perform live is definitely my latest single “Wait For You.” I love seeing the crowds energy when the beat drops.
How will this tour be different than your past tours?
There will be a lot of new music out by the time the tour starts, so the setlist will include a lot of new songs as well as all the old fan favorites. And of course, I will include some surprises.
Do you have any goals for 2019?
My biggest goal is to have that 1 song that everyone knows, hopefully “Wait For You” becomes just that.
