Watch out, world. Kayla Brianna has been releasing track after track guaranteed to get you moving to some seriously smooth and catchy R&B vibes this summer. Fresh from a North American tour with K. Michelle and being named one of iHeartRadio’s 2017 “On The Verge” artists, we’re excited to hear more music from her!
CelebMix chatted with Kayla Brianna about music, touring and the future!
If you could describe your musical style in three words, what would they be and why?
Emotional because it details my personal life, connection because it’s relatable, and honest because I don’t leave out any details!
What usually comes to you first while songwriting, the lyrics, story or a melody?
Usually when I’m songwriting the story comes first. I will already know what I want to write about. However, if I hear a track first I let that kind of guide me depending on what it sounds like.
Out of all the music you’ve released, do you have a personal favourite?
It depends. “Work For It” is my favorite to perform live and “Luck” is my current favorite to jam to.
If you could spend a day songwriting or directing music videos, which one would you choose and why?
I would spend the day directing music videos! I love seeing music come to life through visuals.
How different do you think it is to be releasing and sharing music, and interacting with fans in the age of the internet?
It’s a lot different because you have so much more access. You can release new music and content at the touch of a button. It definitely has its advantages.
You just wrapped up a North American tour with K. Michelle – how are you feeling?
It was a lot of fun to get back on the road. I haven’t been on tour in so long so getting back in the groove of hitting a different city each night and performing my music in front of people was awesome.
If you could perform in a city anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would love to perform in Tokyo or Hong Kong. The technology there is super advanced so I feel like I could have a really dope stage!
What would you say has been the most rewarding element of your career so far?
The most rewarding is being able to perform and having people sing my lyrics back to me.
Outside of music, you also have a love for fashion – who are some people who inspire your personal sense of style?
A lot of the times what I see on Instagram inspires me. There’s a lot of fashion blogs I like such as Fashionbombdaily.

Are there any milestones you’d like to hit in your musical career?
I would love to win a Grammy and be on my own world tour.
Are there any projects you’re working on that we should stay tuned for?
I have a movie coming out at the end of the year so I’m super excited for that!
