Lauren Duski is an exciting, fast rising Country artist who has recently been selected as one of CMT’s Next Women of Country. This exciting news follows the success of her debut single ‘Costume Party’ which dropped last September.
Since her appearance on NBC’s The Voice on Season 12 as runner up, the track has taken off and has inspired fans to make videos sharing their stories and vulnerability that brought Lauren to combine all the videos together to make the official music video for the single.
And now Lauren is back with her brilliant new single ‘Heart Hurt Good’.
Here we speak exclusive to Lauren Duski about CMT, new music, future plans and more:
You have been added to CMT’s 2019 Next Women of Country list, how does that make you feel?
It really is a dream come true. I would watch music videos on CMT growing up and always dreamed to be a part of a community like this. It’s incredible to have the support from CMT and to have them celebrate all of the women in country is such a gift.
What are you planning for 2019 now you have the backing of CMT?
The support definitely has me inspired to continue to release more new music. The response to the first release has been overwhelming so far and I am just so thankful that people are listening.
Your new single “Heart Hurt Good” is out now, what inspired this track?
For the last 27 years, I haven’t been able to write a happy song to save my life. It was something I just thought wasn’t in the cards for me until I felt a shift this past year. I think it was a sign that I have never really been in love until this last year. He helped me break out of the sad song rut and write about love for the first time without it sounding ridiculously corny.
What do you hope fans take from the song?
I want people to listen and know the kind of love they deserve. It’s so easy to settle. I’ve been there, where you just know the person you’re with isn’t right for you but you stay anyway. I’ve learned in the last year that if it doesn’t drive you absolutely crazy, almost hurt in a way how much you love them…you should move forward.
The new track comes after the release of your debut single “Costume Party” back in September last year, how do you feel you have grown musically since then?
For the first time in my life, I feel like I know what I want to say. I am not afraid anymore. After releasing ‘Costume Party’, there was so much clarity and almost a wave of relief in that I could be very transparent with everyone and my fans weren’t going anywhere. In fact, it brought us much closer.
Your debut release has really taken off since your appearance on NBC’s The Voice, how would you describe your time on the show?
The Voice was such a gift. Not only did I get to spend a year with some of the best people I’ve ever known, but I was able to finally have the crash course in confidence I needed to let go of all of my insecurities.
The track has also inspired your fans to make videos sharing their stories and vulnerability, was it important to you to include these clips in the official music video?
It was everything to me. The fans are the reason ‘Costume Party’ even existed in the first place. They opened up to me in their letters about things I know were very hard to share, and that vulnerability helped me open up in the writing room the day we wrote ‘Costume Party’. I know they had to be a part of the music video there was just no way around it.
Back to your new music can we expect a full-length album from you soon?
Oh yes! I am so excited to share more music soon. My first EP is coming out at the top of the year which I am cannot wait for!!
Do you have any touring plans lined up?
Nothing is set in stone yet, but we are absolutely working on getting back out there.
Do you have a message for your fans?
I see you. I love you. Thank you for always accepting me for who I am.
