Morgan Rawbone, is the 17 year old Welsh singer/Songwriter.
At a young age, Morgan has already performed at lots of events, including touring with, Britain’s Got Talent finalists Bars and Melody, as their support act. And she will also be singing at the Pride Cymru event, this year.
Rawbone is currently unsigned, but with her talent she will surely be snapped up soon.
I was lucky enough to catch up with the rising star for a quick chat.
Do you write all of your own materiel?
I do write originals but I also love taking a well known song and completely changing it
What are you earliest memories of singing?
I must have been about 5/6 years old when this happened, little back-story… I LOVED Disney growing up and “The Little Mermaid” was always one of my favourite films. Anyway, when I was on holiday in Florida me and my family went to the pool to enjoy bit of the sunshine as you do, you don’t get a lot of sun here where I’m from lol! well, I would pretend to be a mermaid by swimming around, acting all dramatic while singing “Part Of Your World”! I would even do that little musical “ahha ahha ahha” Ariel does. I can still remember the looks I got aha :)
When did you realise you wanted to be a professional singer?
I wanted to be a professional singer after I started to notice how good it made me feel to perform. Music helped me through a lot of things and always makes me happy. I later realised when I was about 14 that some of these songs I listened to, related to me and made me and others feel better about themselves. For me, becoming a professional singer is the ultimate way of making people happy on a larger scale.
What did your family say when you told them your dream was to be a singer?
I don’t really remember telling them, they just knew that’s what I wanted, because music was all I talked about. When I started taking serious steps to becoming a professional they were all really supportive, but made sure I did all my homework.
Describe your sound in three words?
familiar but different
Would you ever consider entering a talent show such as The X Factor?
I think those TV shows are amazing stepping stones to get out there so sure, Id consider them but I don’t mind where I sing or who I’m singing in front of… as long as I get to be me while doing so.
If you weren’t a singer what would you be doing?
hmm that’s a hard question! I love doing creative things like arts and crafts so maybe I’d spend more time on those interests.
Who are your musical influences?
I find all genres of music can be influential so I listen to lots of different people. A few would be Lauryn hill for her R&B style or Taylor Swift for her way with words.
If you could collaborate with anyone who would you choose?
Adam Levine hands down. His voice is truly amazing
If you could perform at any venue what would you choose?
Times square, New York, on New Years Eve. That would be a dream come true
What is your favourite song at the moment?
Black Magic – Little Mix, I love it and can’t seem to get it out of my head
What is your favourite thing about working in the industry?
I love meeting new people, that can be an owner of a club, another musician or a fan I just love talking and getting to know somebody I meet along the way :)
If you could change one thing about the industry what would you change?
I always thought that music was for expressing important matters and showing everyone who you are! When a song comes on the radio but is filled with meaningless/empty words with so much auto tune… Its annoying because there are so many talented people out there with important things to express but they don’t get recognised. Things need to change.
What would you like to achieve in the next ten years?
