Liv Dawson is the London based singer-songwriter who has been busy captivating music lovers and critics alike with her unique blend of RnB tinged pop.
Following the release of her debut single ‘Tapestry’, the songstress caught the attention of Disclosure, who went on to sign her to their Method Records label. Since then, Liv has released a string of incredible tracks including ‘Hush’, ‘Painkiller’, and ‘Talk’.
In addition to releasing striking original music, Liv has also had the opportunity to perform across the UK and beyond at a number of high profile gigs. Most notably, earlier this year she opened for Khalid on the UK and European leg of his tour.
On Saturday, Liv returned to BST Hyde Park to perform on the Barclaycard Stage, ahead of Bruno Mars’ headline show on the Great Oak Stage. We grabbed a quick chat with Liv just before she went on stage to discuss her forthcoming new music, her songs being played on Love Island, and more.
So you’re performing on the Barclaycard Stage today, how are you feeling ahead of your performance?
I’m so excited! It’s my third year coming here now, it’s my favourite festival.
It’s such an iconic location as well, so to get to come back year after year must be a great feeling.
Yeah it’s really good!
You recently supported Khalid on tour and obviously he’s here today. Are you looking forward to having a little reunion with him?
Yeah, definitely! It’s been a while so it will be nice to see him and I’m excited to see his set as well.
Reunited with @thegreatkhalid yesterday @BSTHydePark ! Looks like we’re having a deep convo but really we’re just gassing about @BrunoMars later on??? pic.twitter.com/e1Kb6tkful

On your social media you’ve recently mentioned being in the studio working on new music. Can you tell us a little about what we can expect?
So I’ve got some music coming out around September time. I’ve been working on a new EP which I’m really excited about and I’ve just been writing with lots of different people, some people who I really enjoy spending time with and just writing music. I’ve got loads of new music coming!
Well we can’t wait to hear what you’ve been working on! We’re big fans of your music and a lot of it has been played on Love Island recently which must be surreal for you?
Yeah it’s so weird! I actually didn’t know, I didn’t have any warning beforehand. I was watching it and I was like, “Oh, Samira’s leaving and my song is playing!”. I didn’t know how to feel but it was really cool.
You’ve been keeping up with the show, so who are you supporting?
I loved Samira, I’m really sad she’s gone but I really like Jack and Dani obviously. They’re the best.
You’ve had a lot of support from the likes of Bruno Major and Disclosure. What’s the best piece of advice they’ve ever given you?
I think to always stay true to myself and also don’t stray to different things that I don’t really want to do or my heart isn’t in. Just write about genuine things that I’ve been through and stuff that I can imagine myself playing for years and years. Also to work hard cos it’s never going to work out if you don’t work hard.
What would you say has been the highlight of your year so far?
Probably going on tour with Khalid, it was just so amazing. Being able to travel to loads of different countries and playing in front of thousands of people was incredible. More of that to come hopefully!
Apart from the new music that we mentioned earlier, what else can we expect from you this year?
I’ll have a show coming at the end of the year and there’s a few other things coming up in the next week actually so that’s exciting!
Finally, do you have a message for your fans?
I’ve got new music coming and I’ll be playing more shows soon so hopefully see you all soon!
