Abi Hudson is the rising pop starlet who needs to be on your radar…that’s if she isn’t already! Having previously released her debut single ‘Fragile Around You’ and the spellbinding follow up ‘Warm in the Room’, Abi has been working hard towards unveiling her highly anticipated EP, Standing Ground.
The EP opens with ‘Fragile Around You’, a slick track which combines acoustic and pop vibes. The song is the perfect introduction to Abi’s sound and highlights her maturity as an artist. ‘Fragile Around You’ deals with feeling vulnerable in a relationship, although Abi delivers the message in an uptempo manner.
Next up is ‘Time Is Running Out’, a reworking of the Muse classic. Laden with powerful strings, Abi’s take on the track is truly haunting. Speaking about the band’s influence on her music, she said: “Muse have always been an inspiration for my music. Even as a little girl I remember listening to and loving their songs.”
The third EP track is ‘Warm In The Room’, which is incredibly atmospheric. The track’s simplicity allows Abi’s vocals, which are goosebump-inducing, to take centre stage. The poignant ballad was inspired by loss and will resonate with anyone who’s ever lost someone dear to them.
The EP comes to an end with ‘Like I’m Losing You’, which once again channels a strong pop sound. The soaring chorus is the track’s highlight and deserves to be played at full volume. Speaking about the track, which was recently played on Radio 2 thanks to Alan Carr, Abi said: “When it came to writing ‘Like I’m Losing You’, we knew we wanted it to be catchy and fun but with a deeper meaning. We put a lot of thought into the lyrics and we ended up with one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written.”
Produced by Terry Ronald (Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud), and Steve Anderson (Britney Spears, Take That, Kylie Minogue), Standing Ground showcases Abi’s versatility and maturity as an artist. She co-wrote the EP alongside Terry and Steve, proving that she can hold her own among some of the country’s finest songwriters. Standing Ground is an emotive offering from the 18-year-old, and if this is the quality of her work at such a young age, then she is only going to continue to grow as a superb artist.

Since stepping out with her debut single last year, Abi has garnered support from numerous high profile outlets including The Line Of Best Fit, 1883 Magazine, PopCrush and more. Alongside media support, the Bromley artist has gained a legion of fans from her various live performances. Abi has performed at popular tastemaker nights Ella Guru (Pixie Lott’s curated showcase) in addition to London venues Barfly, The Underbelly and Sebright Arms. On August 8, Abi will showcase her unique sound at the legendary Ronnie Scotts in London.
