CelebMix is pleased to bring you the exclusive premiere of New-York based singer-songwriter Denvre Couts’ debut track “Wait It Out.” Read on to get the first look at the new song and video!
Denvre moved from her hometown of Mustang, Oklahoma to New York four years ago. While she grew up surrounded by music since her mother was a piano teacher, it took some time for her to discover her own talent for singing. Through singing at her church and joining a 3 piece original band, her passion for singing grew into a desire to use her voice to create. She draws inspiration from the likes of Bon Iver, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sylvan Esso, and found her niche in the world of pop music with the help of producer Simon Oscroft. At the same time, she expressed herself through songwriting, discovering her preference for eerie melodies with an underlying sense of hope.
This unique combination is seen on Denvre’s debut song- “Wait It Out”. The song is written about the difficult realities of a long distance relationship. The track has a personal meaning to Denvre, since it is based on what she went through with her boyfriend at the time, who is now her husband. “I found myself in this tension of waiting for what seemed like forever to be reunited, yet wanting time to slow down because so much life seemed to be happening in fast motion,” says Denvre. The chorus of the song reflects this conflict between wanting to “wait it out” and “slow it down.” Denvre’s haunting vocals and rich harmonies add to the tension of the lyrics but also create an underlying sensation of hope and positivity.
The process behind “Wait It Out” ironically mirrors the message of the song. Denvre says the long process of creating the song, right up to its release, “created a resilience” in her. Nevertheless, the wait is finally over, and Denvre is stoked that the song is finally out. We think this debut track lays a strong foundation for her future as a singer-songwriter and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
With any sort of goal, dream, or ambition in mind, it can be discouraging if you’re not seeing progress. It feels like you’re wasting away in the waiting. Or maybe it feels like you’re running out of time, so you hope for it all to slow down so you don’t miss out. I think most of life is dancing between these two tensions of time.
The music video for “Wait It Out” reflects the slightly melancholy feel of the track itself. The video follows Denvre through the streets of Brooklyn, New York with a black and white filter.
