Kären McCormick is a country-pop singer based in Washington whose new single ‘Just A Song’ will be released on Friday, March 16th.
Like many young country-pop singer’s, the 22-year-old rising talent’s career all started with a Taylor Swift song. After hearing Swift’s massive debut single ‘Tim McGraw’ back in 2006, McCormick began to beg her father for a guitar. Aged 13 she received a guitar as a Christmas gift, and on Christmas Day she wrote her first ever song in just 30 minutes.
Three years later aged 16, Kären took her career to the next level, performing for an audience for the first time. During her stage debut, she sang at the famous Bing Crosby Theatre, competing a talent contest; Spokane’s Got Talent. The audience voted her the winner. That same year, McCormick started a YouTube channel. One of her videos, Lil Wayne’s “How To Love”, tallied over 100,000 views – and McCormick started to gain a strong social media following.
Since then, Kären McCormick has amassed over 830,000 views on YouTube, performed at fairs and festivals across the Pacific Northwest, opened for Terry McDermott of NBC’s The Voice, and is currently writing and working on her debut EP.
And this Friday she will release new single ‘Just A Song’. Speaking about the single, McCormick says: “Just a Song” is a story of nostalgia. Typically when a song comes on, it may not be a big deal. But what we don’t think about is that song could mean something very significant to another listener. It could be their wedding song, their breakup song, their work out song. I wanted to tell a story of a song being so much more than just a song.”
