Gillian Heidi is a young singer-songwriter from Boston. While she is only 14 years old, the maturity and wisdom in her songs have led her fans to draw comparisons to Camila Cabello, Colbie Caillat, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift. Her vocals carry the stories of relationships, intense feelings, and memorable moments that are laid out in her lyrics. “Artists decades older wish that they could craft lyrics as insightful and moving,” says producer Patrick Hanlin.
Gillian dropped her debut single, “what it felt like“, just over a month ago. The track is a nostalgic look back at a close friendship that went wrong. Along with “player”, this song will appear on Gillian’s upcoming 5-track EP titled Unfiltered, set for release in less than a month on March 15th.
The second single from the EP, “player”, is an upbeat tune with an edge to it. The rich instrumentation provides a perfect foundation for Gillian’s confident vocals as she warns listeners against trying to change a manipulative boy. While undoubtedly a pop song, the insightful comparisons in the pre-chorus and Gillian’s use of her lower register add depth and bite to the tune. “player” is a bop about people that toy with your feelings,” writes Gillian in the song’s Soundcloud description. “Do yourself a favour and don’t think you’ll change them.”
