Teen DIY-Pop songstress Silver Sphere is premiering the music video to her latest track, ‘boys in bands’, right here on CelebMix.
Sophie Cates, artistically known as Silver Sphere, has been impressing indie music critics since her debut single, ‘drinking games’, which was released almost a year ago now. Since then, she has been racking up acclaim from outlets worldwide and also gaining features on popular indie Spotify playlists.
Her new single, ‘boys in bands’, is currently featured on the ‘All New Indie’ playlist alongside the likes of Billie Eilish and Sky Ferreira. This then led to Cates landing a record deal with indie label, Human Re-Sources, founded by J Erving.
Silver Sphere has described ‘boys in bands’ as,
“Both a commentary on the “indie boy’ stereotype and on people like me, who fall for it over and over again. The song depicts me getting broken up with by yet another musician, and the moment I realized that tattoo’s and immature behavior may be alluring, it’s not a path I should go down again. The song depicts a new attitude, a confidence I’d never felt before, and a feeling of being so, so fed up.”
The accompanying music video for ‘boys in bands’ shows Silver Sphere singing along to her new single with her male band whilst being undermined by her fellow bandmates by being told things like, ‘You just don’t understand the concept of jazz’.
This then proceeds to Sphere recruiting a new all-female band to assist her and eggs the former boy band in the name of karma.
