US country music sensation Sarah Darling will be playing a number of shows in the UK over the coming months including a sold-out gig at St Pancras Old Church in London on December 8th, and will be supporting record-breaking British country duo Ward Thomas at their concert at the GLive in Guildford on the 6th of December. Darling will also be performing in London next year on March 5th at the Union Chapel. This show will take place days after the release of her new single which will be dropping on March 2nd.
And along with announcing these UK dates Sarah has also recently released her Christmas covers album ‘Winter Wonderland‘ where she puts her own spin on classics such as ‘White Christmas’, and ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’.
Here we speak exclusively to Sarah Darling about her new LP, upcoming UK shows, new music, and all things Christmas;
How much fun did you have recording your new Christmas album ‘Winter Wonderland’?
Making a Christmas album was a whole other level of recording fun! What’s great about “Winter Wonderland” is having all of my friends involved singing harmonies and shaking sleigh bells. So basically the whole process felt like a party! Picking the tracks was fun as well. I have always loved the tracks I selected for the project!
Which is your personal favourite track on the LP?
This is a tough choice for me. If I’m feeling melancholy I gravitate towards “River.” I’m simply in love with this song. If I’m wanting a bit of cheeky fun then I would hands down say “Santa Baby!”
Do you have any plans to release an original Christmas song?
I’ve written a few over the years but they are always quite sad! I’m still working on just the right one, but for now you get to hear a few of my personal favorites!
What family traditions do you enjoy over the festive period?
I have a very large family so you can imagine this controlled Chaos at Christmas! My favorite tradition is baking with my mum. We will make decorated sugar cookies every year as well as a French recipe called Gaufrettes, passed down from my Great Great grandma. It’s an absolute baking marathon!
Along with releasing your Christmas covers record you’ve also been recording your new album. When can fans expect that to drop?
I’m getting so excited just thinking about this! I’ve been in the studio with producer Mark Bright this past month working on new tracks. We are planning on a March release at this point, and of course I will be playing the gorgeous Union Chapel in London to line up with it March 5!
You also have a new single being released next March, what can you tell us about the track?
I can tell you that this song is an older one of mine that talks about addiction. I think because it was such a personal song I stopped playing it for a while and it found its way. I fell back in love with it! I believe some songs are meant to be heard. Especially the ones that help the heart. That’s my hint!
You’re also supporting Ward Thomas at the GLive next month, can fans expect to hear new music?
Yes, you will hear some new tunes as well as a little Christmas cheer!
Do you have any plans to release a collaboration with Ward Thomas?
I love those girls! I could totally see us scheming something up for sure. I’m looking forward to supporting them in Guildford December 6!
Next month will also see you headlining your biggest UK show to date, how excited are you about the gig?
Headlining my own show in London was the end of the year goal and I couldn’t be more excited, especially full band! It’s fun to experience my tracks with a fuller sound. More than anything, I’ve fallen in love with the fans of the UK. I can’t stay away, and they have given me so much over the last couple years. I feel grateful.
Will you also be touring your new music next year?
Absolutely!
How excited are you by the growth of UK country music?
I love it! It’s proof that Country music is not limited to a particular place. It’s a feeling and a story that translates all over the world. It makes my heart happy to be part of this movement as well. It’s only going to keep growing.
