Describing herself as “a young girl with big dreams and determination”, the 15-year-old singer-songwriter is already making big waves in the industry after capturing the attention of producer Shayal (Ginuwine, Jagged Edge).
“As a music producer you’re always looking for something new, exciting and that gives you goosebumps. The first time I heard Riya sing and saw her perform I knew she had what it takes…” Shayal said. “She’s not just a great singer and dancer, but she writes her own songs, that not only mean something to her, but that will resonate with her peers. I know she has what it takes to make it to the top!”
Riya has also received support from Dappy, who recently shared a clip of her stripped back piano cover of his latest track ‘Oh My’ on Instagram. To date, the stunning clip has been viewed over 86,000 times.

Today, Riya is taking the most exciting step of her career so far by releasing her debut single ‘No Time’. The track received its premiere on Bobby Friction’s BBC Asian Network radio show last week, with the songstress being supported as a BBC Introducing artist. Following the track’s release today, it has entered the iTunes World Chart at number two.
‘No Time’ is an anthem for Generation X which delivers an empowering message of positivity. Produced by Shayal, the afrobeat inspired offering sees Riya commenting on the younger generation’s obsession with phones and social media.
Speaking about ‘No Time’, Riya said: “It’s a happy song about letting go of your worries and having a good time with your girlfriends. The underlying theme is girl power and having fun, but what really sparked it was the fact that my generation are so immersed in their phones and sometimes you’re trying to have a conversation and no-one’s really listening, hence the lyrics.”
To coincide with the release of ‘No Time’, Riya has also filmed an accompanying music video which we’re delighted to be premiering today. Directed by Daniel Alexander, the visual is a fun offering which sees Riya having the best time with her girl squad. Simple yet effective, the video perfectly puts across the song’s important message.
