Surely we don’t need another animated musical for our kids (…and adults, don’t lie…) to obsess over right? Well, wrong. In fact, STX Films’ upcoming movie, “Ugly Dolls,” may just be the most important one of them all and we finally have the first official teaser to prove it.

Inspired by the globally beloved, “Ugly Doll,” plush toy phenomenon of 2001, the forthcoming movie is full of star power with everyone from Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas, to Wanda Sykes and Gabriel Iglesias voicing a character.

But it’s not just the range of celebrities taking part in, “Ugly Dolls,” that is impressive. Instead, it’s the message behind the movie which we believe is going to propel it to new heights of success.

Set in the town of Uglyville where weird is celebrated, strange is special and beauty is embraced, we meet the free-spirited Moxy and her friends. Intrigued by life on the other side of the big mountain in their town, Moxy gathers a group of dolls and sets off on an adventure. There they discover the land of Perfection, where more conventional dolls are trained to be perfect, and then are sent off into the “real world” to find the love of a human child.

In the land of Perfection, Moxy and her friends become subject to the manipulation of the villainous Lou who is in charge of training the recruits. Here, the Ugly Dolls find themselves having to confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately find out that they don’t have to be perfect because who you truly are is really what matters the most.

After weeks of exciting additions to the cast of the movie, STX Films finally released the first teaser trailer for, “Ugly Dolls,” yesterday (8th November) and we have to admit, we’re already too excited to watch it!

So without further ado, check out the first official teaser for, “Ugly Dolls,” right here:

And now that you have that little song firmly stuck in your head for basically the rest of eternity, let’s go through the star-studded cast once again…

Kelly Clarkson will be the voice of Moxy:

Nick Jonas is set to voice a villainous Lou, alongside Blake Shelton, Emma Roberts, Janelle Monae, Gabriel Iglesias, and newest additions Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX and Lizzo.

“Moxy could not be more perfect for me,” Kelly Clarkson said of her brightly-coloured character, in a recent interview with USA Today. “Moxy’s personality is one hundred percent me. It’s not acting… It’s weird, it’s like she was written for me!”

“This movie is a giant metaphor on life,” the singer then added. “We all come in different shapes and sizes and personalities, each with our own individuality.”

The former, “American Idol,” contestant also sung the praises of her, “Ugly Dolls,” co-star Nick Jonas during her interview, saying that she was impressed at how well he embraced his role as villain, Lou.

“I may not be villainous in real life but if I haven’t had my coffee in the morning I can be a bit prickly,” the singer and, “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle,” actor joked.

But in all seriousness, Nick Jonas believes that the timing of the, “Ugly Dolls,” movie was perfect. “It seems that the world gets darker and darker every passing day and times get harder, so it’s exciting to bring something joyful into the world that has a positive message of hope and acceptance.”

“I hope that when people see this movie, they’ll understand that it is possible to be loved, and to be accepted exactly for who you are,” he concluded.

And with that in mind, make sure you all go and watch, “Ugly Dolls,” when it’s released in theatres on 10th May 2019. You should also keep an eye out for the original motion picture soundtrack set to be released around the same time under Atlantic Records, featuring songs from the cast.
