Shocking isn’t it? The Spice Girls – the ones who initiated the teen pop and girl power trend back in the late 90’s have yet to receive their star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

If that doesn’t justify them having a star, then here’s a few more reasons why their recognition should be stamped on that Hollywood floor for all to see. So listen up!

    1) They are the best selling girl group of all time

The first and pretty most self-explanatory reason. Almost every other artist whose dominated their respective genre(s) in sales have a star. You have Frank Sinatra, Britney Spears, Eminem, Mariah Carey, Backstreet Boys, etc.

    2) They have the best selling girl group album of all time

‘Spice’ has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and still continue to sell today. Even their sophomore album effort has sold over 20 million copies! But the fact that they have this recognition is pretty important since they broke the boundaries of mainstream music all over the world, not just in the United States and the U.K.

    3) Created a teen pop explosion after their arrival

After they hammered the scene, many record labels started signing artists to specifically target the teen demographic. Teen pop stars such as Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc are just a few artists to name that were inspired by the girl power domination present at the time.

    4) Successfully survived the somewhat harsh U.S. music market

If you’re from somewhere other than the U.S. it can be hard to crack the other side of the pond. But the Spice Girls are a perfect example of a group that took everyone’s interest by storm. You didn’t just have young girls and boys listening the the girl group but mom’s, dads, and even grandparents. The Spice Girls’ British invasion was epic and still considered today, as the ultimate pop phenomenon.

    5) They’ve been praised by greats such as Nelson Mandela and Prince Charles

The girls even met Prince Charles giving him a grand ol’ smooch and the famous Nelson Mandela who looked equally as blushed as the Prince. I mean come on, they were surrounded by the biggest girl group of all time. Greats meeting greats – it’s only widely acceptable right?

So now that we’ve explained a few (kindly) details of why the Spice girls deserve their star, we’ll all be waiting for the Spice Girls’ nomination AND star you Hollywood Executives! It’s time to take action! x
