It has been announced that The Fosters will be coming to an end after season five. The news comes as bittersweet to the cast and fans of the show, but fortunately this isn’t the end for two characters.
The Fosters will be finishing one chapter and opening a new one with the help of Callie Adams-Foster (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana Adams-Foster (Cierra Ramirez).
The Disney owned cable network is set to conclude the drama’s five season run with a three-night limited series event in the summer. The three-night event will also introduce the straight-to-series 13-episode order spinoff, featuring Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez, as they embark on their new adventures to adulthood.
“First and foremost, we want to thank our fans, our supportive ‘Fosters Family’, and Freeform for fostering this show,” Joanna Johnson, Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige said Wednesday, announcing the news in a joint statement. “It’s been the privilege of our lives to get to shepherd this beautiful family through five seasons of love, laughter, heartbreak, tribulation and triumph — and message to the world that DNA doesn’t make a family, love does. All while allowing us to explore some of the most pressing social issues of our era. Now that the kids are growing up, it’s time to take them out into the world, to see them make their way into adulthood, continuing their search for identity and love, and the pursuit of their dreams and purpose in this ever changing world.”
The spinoff will be designed to follow the lives of Callie and Mariana, as they move on from their high school lives to the glamorous life of Los Angeles. The new show will be a time jump and is expected to deliver the same amount of high quality in controversial subjects as The Fosters did, due to the original producing team still being behind this new show.
Your loyalty means the world to all of us at The Fosters and we are truly grateful to every single one of you.

While we have to say our happiest goodbyes to the likes of; Stef, Lena, Brandon, Jesus, Jude, Mike, Ana and Gabe… We have luckily been promised to have guest appearances from hopefully the majority of our most beloved characters, as it just won’t be the same without them.
5B will consist of 10 episodes and returns January 9th on Freeform, which will also include their 100th episode landmark. The producing team will be exactly the same, alongside executive producer, Jennifer Lopez. Additional casting for the spinoff is expected to be revealed later on in the year.
